    Motor Temperature

My motor is reaching temperatures of 150-160 F after a run. Is this hot enough to do peramanent damage to the magnets?

I know I have to alter my set up to get it to run cooler but I'm wondering if this motor is no longer 100%.

how long were u running at those temps? with my mega motor they dont advise running more than 160 for long periods.

Not long. I haven't timed it but I would estimate between 1 and 2 minutes before I give it a rest. However, I have heated it up like this on numerous occasions.

What motor? Higher quality motors will usually tolerate slightly higher temperatures for a longer time. 160F on an inrunner's can can mean a lot higher temps inside where the magnets live....

It's a Team Orion Formula SV2 Pro Bushing 23T double brushed motor.

If that was the can temperature rather than the endbell temperature then the magnets are perhaps just slightly degraded. That is not a bad motor, it uses the last mod motor generation's technology.

I'm going to be running the Team Orion Method R V2 21x2 on the gt650 outboard in the new rescue boat. I chose it because of it’s all aluminum endbell &cylindrical angled brushes. I am of the opinion it will tolerate heat much better than the older generation 05 motors. We will see how it handles 2s 7.4 4000 mah lipos...

The 160 is the endbell temperature. The can temperature is about 145 so it sounds like the magnets would still be ok.

Your going to put 14.8V to it then. It will be interesting to see how it stands up to that.

I run with the motor can temperature under 150F. If it is higher? Your setup is using to many watts. Lower your amps by using a smaller prop or volts. You can also shorten the run time.

Right. Forgot they were 3.7V / cell.
