Death of a Hydra and XL7

Finally got to the pond this evening,,,,Blackjack all modded up for its first run.
XL7, Hydra 120 and 5S Lipo's, running a SV-3 Bladed prop. 4th lap out it died after some increadibly scary straight runs

Opened the hatch after about a 5 minute drift to shore, the motor was very hot and the speed control,,well, just have a look at the photos.
The XL now turns over very roughly and the speed control,,,well the pics show everything.

The motor was brand new, the Hydra had one previous run with 14 cells with no problems.

    I'm hot happy right now

Sorry for the photo quality, My camera does not like to do close-ups.

Make sure to contact Castle about the speed control. There was a guy over on rum runners that toasted a Barracuda and they told him to mail it in.

Ouch. Glad the lipos didn't rupture. I've heard Castle's customer service is pretty good.

            SAWs?????

Guys that setup is way to hot !!!!! 4s would be hot !! Your equipment was hating life.

I'm no cat man, Fluid could tell you better, but I think a 8xl on 4s would be closer to what you want.

Sorry you had the failure Doby.

with that set up you were spinning somthing like 44000unloaded rpm, that 3 blader seems like alot of prop for that set up, like doug said SAWs set up!! I bet it was cool to watch though! (not the smoke part cause that sucks) sorry about your equipment.

Tundra, I had a SV-27 system in it and it preformed really well. Wanted more speed as usual. The motor was brand new, the Hydra had only one other run on it. I contacted Castle last night, hopefully they will come through.

As for the motor, who knows what will happen.

Good luck.. Im over 10 weeks wait on a new 80 that would not arm correctly. Maybe the hydras are a faster return.

Doby. I am sorry to hear of your problems. It is really important on any new set ups to check temperatures on batteries, ESC and motor after 30 seconds of run time and if acceptable send the boat out for another 30 seconds. If temps are OK you are set to go. If not you will have to change prop, motor or power source. Also check your temps after a full run on a new set up
