I was serching for some carbon fiber cloth when I came across this racing sailboat. I figured I could run this sailboat whenever winds were up and water is too choppy for my motorized boats. I think it would be cool to learn how to sail. Hull was $99.99 plus shipping after I registered. I also ordered some 5.6 oz. carbon fiber cloth.

My first sail boat was similar to that one.

Was pretty diappointed with it after a couple of weeks with the poor quality showing.....

I now have a Kyosho Seawind that is great. Just google that sail boat and you'll see how many followers it has. It also has its own website.

I bought this boat on impulse thinking "wow that is a cool looking sailboat". I wish I did more research before buying.

BTW...How fast is the Seawind in a good wind?

Not sure but she does go fast..... Never put a GPS on the sailboat.....

Since you already bought it, nothing is all lost.....

Just like other boats most of the issues can be fixed.

Some things to watch out are water entering the hull, the screws stripping the hull, the plastic sails getting torn, the rigging being not tight enough, reinforcing the hull (especially where the keel joins the hull) and so on.....

There are some good literetures on Rcgroups, RCU and the Seawind website.

They are addictive as FE and soon you might want a carbon fibre hulls like I do

We have a couple of very active R/C sailing clubs in my area. They are a very competitive and active group of racers. They mostly race the US 1 Meter boats, and make no mistake, once you get deep into that world you can spend BIG $$ on the boats. A friend of mine has a German made all CF hull that the bare hull was nearly $2K. Then mutiple sets of Kevlar sails and so on. Sailing may not be as fast as our racing but the strategy and skills are possibly even more demanding.

I've been wanting to get into R/C sailing to kind of fart around with, but not get real heavy into like the fast electrics stuff. I was looking at those cheaper Chinese ones to start out with, but am curious if thats not the best way to go.

The Thunder Tiger Victoria is a pretty good little boat and it has it's own class if you want to race.
Okanogan Sailboat site has some good info if you want to lighten it. My other boat is a stock Seawind that is a blast.
Once in a while it's a nice change to drive something that doesn't crash when you look away for a minute.

For scale look boats sailboat are great Plus they can be operated for many hours until the receiver/servo battery runs out......

Its just amazing to watch a sailboat gliding on the water gracefully using wind power.

My suggestion is the "T37" from Tippecanoe Boats. The Kit is 170 and contains everything you need except paint. It includes radio, servos, epoxy, etc. When you're done you have a beautiful wooden boat that outsails the Victoria's etc. It is very easy to build and fun as well.
