    Aluminum rails

    HI ALL,

DO ANY OF YOU USE ALUMINUM RAILS TO MOUNT YOUR MOTORS/RADIO BOXES INSTEAD OF WOOD? I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY PREMADE TO ORDER...I WAS THINKING ABOUT BUYING SOME ALUMINUM CHANNEL TO MAKE MY OWN.. I JUST THINK IT WOULD LOOK NEATER AND BE STRONGER ALSO MATCH THE NICE RAIL STYLE MOTOR MOUNTS I HAVE SEEN..THE ONLY PROBLEM WOULD BE SECURING IT TO THE HULL WITHOUT MAKING A GUMPED UP MESS. MHZ SELLS A SET OF PLASTIC LOOKING RAILS PRE CUT AT $65.00 WAY TOO MUCH..ANY THOUGHTS?

If you use it, be very careful. As you probably already know, aluminum is an extremely conductive material.

i could not imagine the results of a connector coming loose and laying on a rail...that would be a bad day..maybe its not such a great idea..if i was a more experienced boater maybe it would be worth it..until i am totally confident in my setups i guess i will play it on the safe side..thanks for the input nautiboyz

        RIPFENCE:

Here's a photo of a Novak 7.5 HV Pro motor installed using an aluminum mount in my custom built 30" cat. I originally had two brushed motors connected end-to-end utilizing this mount; that didn't quite pan out as I'd hoped, so instaed of making a new mount, I just used what I already had.

A member here at OSE makes beautiful aluminum mounts. They are wonderful. Also some made by Williams. Sorry, don't have the links just now.
