Brushed RC-Hydros ESC/FM Tx info needed

I read somewhere that i need an FM Tx to run this Rc-Hydros V-90 1032/opto ESC.If so why? Have they been run with AM Tx with no problems also? Do this also applies to other Big Brushed esc`s like an Astroflight 212D? both are gonna be run with 700`s motors on 2-7.2V 4500 NiMh packs.
The 212D i already ran it with a 700ss1 but noticed some "glitching"/minor erratic changes in direction and throttle response.This motor has all capacitors and diode fitted to it.Can this be the Tx Am frequency or problems with the Rx?......Thanks in advance for any suggestions and answers,............Al/karfrik

I wouldn't recommend AM for ANY electric model boat - that's why I put that in the instructions. AM is very susceptible to RF noise from electric motors and ESCs. It was my way of helping you not to have problems. You wouldn't believe how many ESCs people sent back to me because "it causes my $35 no-name AM radio to glitch." Quite simply, I was tired of telling people you don't put a $100 ESC in a boat with a $35 radio system. You should expect the same sort of problem with a Astro 212D. With an AM radio, you WILL have glitching problems. As your power level increases, your glitching will increase (even faster).

What you need to do is upgrade to an FM or 2.4g radio. FM will get rid of 95% of your glitching problems, 2.4g will take care of the other 5%. There are lots of FM radios for sale, just look around a little.

FWIW, the Astro 212D and the early (non-Victory) RC-Hydros.com ESCs had the same source code. I only made minor changes to reduce the glitching in my ESCs vs. Astro's and to change the LED operation. The Victory code was all-new, nothing in common with the Astro code. The Astro code was written by a model airplane buddy of mine from South Dakota.

Hi Andy and thanks for your imput.Nothing like having the ESC builder himself to help you!!!.I`m still barely new to the hobby and even though i have one BL boat(BJ26)already,i`m still playing and learning from brushed ones by getting them together myself.
Well,time then for me to get rid of my AM radios for this FE brushed boats i`m building.
So,do i still have to fit the motors with both capacitors and diodes if using FM radios? or can i void the capacitors and just use the diode? or what?

You should still use the caps and diode, even when you get to 2.4g.

BTW, I have 12 NIB Victory (10-32) controls if anybody is interested.

The TACTIC 2.4ghz radio from Aquacraft works great! I am using them in all of my boats. I love the fact they have no external antenna. The best part is a Tx and Rx is only $80 and extra receivers are only $25! Alternatively, I see that Airtronics has come out with a 2.4ghz radio with tx and rx for $99 and it has model memories, etc. whereas the TACTIC is simple, non computer radio with no memories, etc.

Andy are those ESC`s that you have left same specs as the one i bought? Same Amps?......how much and specs if different?.......
On the market for a FM radio already,looking at 2.4 too,but would like one with 5-10 memory,...Al

Andy,.....Thanks for the manual!!!,...on the radio,well ,thats still out of my range$$$.Would like to start with something simpler and cheaper but brand quality.
So Andy,What does Opto means? no bec? if so i need to run the optional power supply(batteries) to run it,right?.
Can you explain me a little bit more the difference on this ESC`s that you still have and the one i`ve got(V-90-1032?opto)?.....all this numbers have me confused(check PM).....Al

Brand quality and pricing go together. You pay for quality.

Opto means Opto-isolated, no BEC. It helps reduce the noise coming into the radio system. You either need a 5-cell NiMH pack or a BEC to run your system.

The V90-1032/Opto is exactly what I have available.

I've always made my own packs.

Shop OffshoreElectrics.com or visit your local hobby shop. The airplane guys will probably have something for you. A 4-cell pack will work, it's just that the 5-cell gives a faster servo transit.
