what kind of batteries do you have and in what configuration ( lipo 3s,4s,5s,6s)
nimh 6, 7, 8 cell, that what would determine the motor and speedo for boat first

The battery i would be using are 11.1 V 2200 mah 3 cell lipo. I was hoping to use just the one battery just because i don't have a lot of room in the hull to install bigger batteries.

I would use an 8L/9L and a Hydra 120 or similar ~120amp ESC in there. I have an 8L (~3000KV) for sale..... but then....

on 11V you want about 3000KV motor and an X640/X642 prop. Let me know if you need a motor.

I would love to run a motor with that power but i would need a transmission and the boat hull is not really big enough to hold a transmission. Unless there are other options out there. All the transmission or gear boxes i have seen out there are just really big and this boat the hull is quite small. The guy i bought it off of use an electric motor out a on road car and ran the flex shaft from the motor out to the back(a lot like the aquacraft super vee 27). I am out of town right now but i take pics and post them so maybe you can see and help me out a bit better.

here are a few pics of my boat. I put a few mock up pieces in it to give you the scale of the hull.

I would agree that a 540 8L or 9L would be a good motor. It can be run without a gear box.

On that small of boat even 2s is more than enough power. 3s 8L combo rips. In my testing a 42mm prop created way to much heat in the motor and lost speed, Y536 x637 m440 are good props as well. test your boat first on small prop before you stick BIG props on. oh 2x 11.1v 2100mah in parallel and an 8L with a y536 pushed this hydro into the upper 50s

                    Similar

Same size boat as mine, information posted in the following thread.

                    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=11309

                    I run a turnigy 3650-2300 on 3s. I run a 3s-1800-20c battery alone or in parallel.
A 38mm prop from OSE here only draws about 22 amps. Definately room for more prop and fun for sport running. If you are looking to race, do not bother with my setup, it is more for fast sport running.

Look at the thread and see if anything pertains to you. The motor is $23, speed control was about $12 I think. I cooled and water proofed it myself.

That seem like the perfect set-up for my boat. Where did u buy all your stuff. Plus the turnigy motor, when you said its 3650 is that 3650kv?

                        hobby city

                        hobbycity.com website.

Turnigy motor is a 3650 which is the size, 36mm dia. x 50mm long, inrunner, 2300 kv, $23.

The speed control is a hobby king SS, that I sealed in epoxy after watercooling. It says it is only for motors up to 2000kv, but I forgot to change it out after changing motors, and it has done fine on 10 minute long runs. I am not pushing the amps much and I am close to the 2000kv cutoff.

I am also using the turnigy 3s-1800-20c batteries with good luck. Cheap setup, but I only run for fun!

They also make a 3650-3300kv motor also.

Buy a waterjacket from OSE here osemjacket for 13.99.

                            esc

I need to put up a post about that. I remove the shrink wrap from the esc, and then carefully pry the heatsink off. Pretty easy, as with these cheap esc, the thermal tape is only touching in a few spots. I use a piece of aluminum to fit the board cut from a 5/16" x 1.5" bar. I drill it three ways to form the water cooling passage, JB weld in two brass tubes and seal up the one extra hole.

I then use thermal paste on the FETs and attach the cooling plate. You can also buy cooling plates from OSE here if you do not want to make your own.

If it does not have a BEC, I add a 7805 5vdc-1amp chip to it. negative and positive go to the power feed on the ESC, the 5v output ties into the red servo lead.

I use CA in two spots to secure the cooling plate so it does not move while I epoxy it. I then mix up some epoxy and brush it all over the esc and let it drip and cure. My epoxy is pretty thin, so I usually do 3 or 4 coats.

                            Great cooling and water proof.

The 90/100 6s ESC in my meanmachine cost me $30, my 40/50 amp ones cost me about $14 with the BEC chip, and the 25/30 cost $9.25. these are all Hobbyking SS controls. I did notice that they have a newer one available now as a heli ESC, 50/65 with BEC for $12!!!

I will try to get a thread posted about the hobbyking SS ESC's I have tried.
