    Brushless motor longevity

    Hi,
What's the average lifespan (say in run-hours) for a good quality brushless motor running on lipo voltages?

Impossible to quantify in run hours. Depends heavily on voltage in/watts produced, how hot it has gotten, how wet it has been, the average rpm, etc. A BL motor can be rebuilt by replacing the bearings - which would be the most likely parts to wear out. A decent quality BL motor should last a very long time if not abused and if properly cared for. A faulty motor, or one which has been abused or over-spun, not so long.

I have had motors returned for repair that were up to 5 years old and they usually need new bearings. If ran inside spec they will last for a very very long time. I have some people still using the motors I hand made when I started without any troubles. So it is how the motor is treated that will determine the life.

As long as you keep your motor away from over heat and replace worn bearings as needed, they can seemingly work forever.
