    Conversion questions

Hello all, I'm new here and semi new to boats. I've been messing around with them a little for a couple years now, but my biggest rc obsession has been cars. Anyways I've got two boats one is a fairly large (I'd have to measure but I'd say at least 3 feet long) V hulled gas boat, it's run off a weed wacker engine and did go pretty fast back in the day. The main problems are that the weed wacker engine sits so far towards the back that the boat almost gets swamped when you are sitting still in the water. I was wondering if it could be converted to brushless with relative ease? And if so how would I go about it.

    Thanks.

Hello and welcome. I take no joy in informing you it is not easy or cost efective to convert and old gas boat to electric power. Those hulls where not built with weight in mind. It makes converting them much more expensive. Most of them are also open hatch style hull so you will have to fab a hatch cover as well. If I had to guess I'd say around 700 dollars for a conversion and suport equipment. I would try moving the engine foward. If you would like to get into electric boating There are plenty of guys here than can point you in the right direstion. Good luck in what ever you decide to do. :)

Check out the OSE Boat hulls page.

          Those are the most popular.

I would start out with the 25 Delta Force or the 25 OSE Raider. The smaller hull will have lower power requirements and keep costs low. I would suggest a full set of SpeedMaster hardware as offered in the package deal. A Feigao L siezd motor 8 to 10 turns on 6 to 8 cells should push that hull up around 30+. It may be worth it to wait on the budget controllers I believe Steven has on the way. If not a Hydra 120 will be plenty of esc..and will allow you to grow into larger hulls as your skills mature. The hardware will be reusable on much larger hulls also. If building your first boat seems like to much. Buy a supervee to get your feet wet. Myself and the other guys here are allways happy to coatch new guys along of you wish. Good luck.

I have a Traxxas blast from long ago, I ordered 20 bucks in spare parts to get it running again so I can have something to play around with this summer. How are you guys water proofing your receivers? Balloons or otherwise? Any tips on sealing the top hatch on the blast?

Great advice for someone starting in the hobby. Do not try to convert gas boats unless you know what you are doing, As you may spend a lot of cash and be very disappointed with the end result. SALEENS 7/ALEX H you have a PM

this stuff here is what I use on my receivers
                      http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=ose-dp270

I have seen several guys in are club ruin the receivers that are wrapped in balloons, it traps condesation and corrodes the electronics. use hatch tape to seal the hatch.
