    Boat recommendation for my situation

    Hi,

I'm looking for a recommendation for a second boat for my son. I'm looking for something faster than villian ex, but I am more interested in build quality/electronics quality vs. speed. I also am looking for something that is very stable and easy to drive for my son (I personally am looking at KOS down the road for me...).

I'm thinking a deep v might still be the best hull for him, and the two models I've seen that might fit the bill are the supervee27 and the formula fastech. I'm a bit concerned about the electronics quality in the fastech, let me know if that is really a concern...

The supervee actually looks too fast for my son-- is there an easy way to slow her down a tad...

Are there any other models I should consider?

    Thanks,
    -Chief

Easy way with the kids: lower volt battery or trim the Tx... after 4-5 weekends, my son drives better than me (not that difficult to do anyway... :) )
SV27 seems a bit more solid, maybe a better option.

For the money its tough to beat the supervee 27 or proboat fastech. I would suggest using a smaller prop for the Supervee. I run a 2317.42 sometimes when its rough and my kids are playing with it. It is slower, but its more stable.

I vote for the SV27 as well. Great boat right out of the box. If your son is like mine, he will be driving better than you after a couple of runs........It's a very humbling experience....lol

Hi, I have a formula fastech that I have modified and am about to put up for sale. I will vouch 100% for the motor/esc in this boat as I have used the system in many other applications where I tested and found its limits - very impressive system.

I have a build thread here where I show what I have done (http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...hlight=fastech), but basically I have made it more stable and adjustable. Now you can place batteries from the transom to way forward, and you can remove the drive for lube as well as adjust the strut much better. As well as made sure it is water tight and sturdy.

If interested I can send you pics of the boat as it is now. I can make it RTR with an am radio system (stock for this boat). email me at [email protected] and I will make you a great deal - $200 RTR shipped/insured.

Yep Roberts boat. Probably worth more like $300 by now, but who cares, its for a kid (not that we aren't kids too!)
I have since also added a speedmaster rudder to match the 1" extension. She handles great. I was runnin her on 5S and she did wheelies!! Oops, better be careful or Robert will be back to reclaim her!

Will be posting FS thread momentarily.

I second that, that is a good deal and you are buying from a reputable person.

The SV 27 is a frusrtating but interesting RTR boat, as it will flip and if you have no recovery method, that can be a problem

I am amazed when dad is whipping around the pond in his Fastech how it always lands wetside!! I have never seen his upside down.... the SV (aka flipper) is another story.

Chief, great choice in boats, you will want it for yourself.

                              Hey Jesse,
Thanks for the great deal on the boat-- my son will love it. I was really on the fence with the Fastech-- I love the style, and also was impressed with the videos I've seen on the speed and handling, but was concerned about some of the build/setup problems-- which you have solved for me with your mods.

It's a Christmas present, so it will be awhile before she hits the water, but I'll be sure to take some videos when we get out to the pond. We live near a perculation pond water reclaim system with 3 really large ponds, and one of them is zoned for model boat racing (although I rarely see anybody out there besides us).

Next stop-- King of Shaves! (maybe next year)
