    Powering df 35

    HI ALL,

WHAT NEU MOTOR/PROP COMBO SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR TO GET TO 60MPH PLUS WITH A DF35 HULL?! ITS 35.5 INCHES LONG...I WANT TO POWER IT ON 6S LIPO FOR SPORT RUNNING AND I HAVE A TURNIGY 180 AMP ESC WITH 360 AMP BURST..

    I WAS THINKING A NEU 1521 1Y 1577KV ON 6S LIPO OR A 1.5D 1860KV ON 5S LIPO..I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT A PROP THOUGH..MAYBE 1.6 PITCH 48MM?

I UNDERSTAND THAT I COULD RUN THIS SETUP IN A DF33 BUT I WANT SOME EXTRA HULL FOR CHOPPY WATER. ANY HELP OR COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

35" is big for 1521 with that speed, get 1527 1.5d, btw, i dont trust your esc with this setup but.....i dunno, just check temp and prop up, start from x445 but, you need at least x648 or similar prop to get to 60mph with 35" mono

I doubt 2 extra inches and a few ounces of weight would hurt a 1521 1y on 6s

What experience do you have in running FE boats? I can be brutal in my replies but stating 60 mph and you are a new member seems off the wall. But welcome to this forum

I am doing a DF35 this winter also . I will be using a Neu 1527/1Y and a Schulze 40/160 Esc on two banks of 6 cells . I would think a 1521 should work fine but a little small for my liking , but thats just me . I like sticking the largest powerplant in just shy of being stupid .

I would stick with the 1Y on 6 cells , The 1.5D on 5 cells would push the 180 to hard trying to reach 60mph . Do not try to break any records on your first run and go conservative with props until you know for sure your temps are low and stable

People here are getting close to 60 with a 1521 1.5D on 4S on their 33" versions, maybe consider something similar on your set up.

Depends on budget and also experience, as "Brutal Douggie" stated in post #4.

              Didn't someone just post results of a DF copy and a 1515 doing 70mph? Why can't a 1521 push a 2" larger hull to 60mph? Just curious.

Not saying he couldn't do it on 4 cells but personally I like a large margin when it comes to pushing my equipment , some are comfortable with less . I have seen DF33's run 2 x 4 cell combo's and 2 x 6 cell combo's what ever is your flavor and run equally well but on a 35" or larger hull I personally would tend to lean towards a 6cell setup

                  Ryan,
It is true that I did do 70 mph with a 1515 1.5 y on 5s1p in a DF 33 clone but only for a SAW run. Yesterday however I swapped to 4s1p and the speed was 59 mph on exactly the same prop and it done 9 laps of the lake and temps were all OK.

Peters suggested setup would have longevity on its side.
Speed costs money. How much do you want to spend? My setup will not last as long as Peters suggested setup.

IMO opinion you are both correct but coming at the problem from different angles.

So, a 1521 1y on 6s will do it. The esc would be the weak link in that setup. I'm curious to see what it will do on 6s. I run the same esc on 5s2p in a 34" sprintcat and a feigao 580L. Only one run so far, so there is much testing to be done.

I have a DF36" and I definately believe there is no way to reach 60 mph with a 1515. Maybe with a 1521 but the turnigy esc might not take it, better chances with a 1527 1Y or 1.5D on 6s bu again I doubt if this esc would handle the 6s with these motors.

I`m in the midle of a DF45 (900 mm) build my self. Just waiting for a Zicha mount to continue the building. I`m going for a NEU 1527 / 1.5Y on 7S or 8S, Hyperion lipos and MGM Compro 25035 esc. Looking forward to see how this will turn out.
