Thrust bearing on a Neu motor

    Yep, thas is why Neu started pinning the endbell - the thrust from an airplane was on the PTO end where the bearing is retained in the case. Older Neus occasionally had the endbell pushed off in boating applications, although that never happened to me. The bearings themselves don't care which way the thrust is applied.

      Fender washer and thrust bearing removed. Is there going to be a problem if I do not shorten the shaft and leave that good sized gap between the coupler and motor housing? The coupler looks a little lonely hanging off the shaft all by it's lonesome.

        I plan on leaving the shaft as it is ... unless someone comes up with a good reason not to.

          Motor shaft and bearing looks beefy enough.

          BTW Chuck, I believe the SAW event down in Elizabeth City,NC is this weekend. May want to check it out if you have any free time. Weather looks nice and the winds are going to lay down for the weekend.

              I usually shorten the shafts, more because of the cramped space in he SAW boats than any structural reason.
