I will throw in my $.02 on this one…

I have raced both hulls all year long in our clubs classes. I also raced both boats at the NAMBA nationals and did quite well.

Both boats have there pluses and minuses… Pick one and stick with it. Keep working to get the absolute most out of the boat regarding speed and handling. You really can’t go wrong with either one.

I'd say that advice is worth at least $1.00!! Very well stated!

I've seen both in action... and success comes down to setup, tuning, and driving... Either can do the job.

I've tried [almost] every trick in the book, including some obscure Guatemalan Voodoo chants to keep my UL-1 from doing the fish-flop dance at speed. I'm about to vent the ribs behind the sponsons to reduce the air-pack. Jan's Pickle runs a whole lot more stable when it's less than glass on the surface. Then again, Randy's staying at my Casa for the SAW's next week & I might just end up buying one of his Zephyrs- they bear some strong consideration- especially after their strong showing at the last Nats.

Tony, try a highland fling around the hull, it has always worked for me, espcially if Jan does it because of his European background.

Detox, we run the SV27 package in our club to keep the class Spec to all the racers. Doug and I tested a pickle with UL-1 vs a pickle with SV27 and there was a significant speed advantage with the UL-1 package.

I'm now experimenting with the Scorpion 3026/1900 in the UL-1 on 4S, using the UL-1 SC with the Etti cap board & an M445. The boat runs super strong, although the Scorp came back at @ 165-170 degrees [ supposedly specs good to 325 deg but who knows ?]. Not sure where this info fits, but I thought I'd just throw this out.

Tony, do you think that this design of motor is suitable for the rigours of FE boating?

The motor is a beautiful pice of workanmanship. The 1/8 scale guys [ Jan included] seem to be really happy with them. The 3026/1900 may be a little undercooled in the P-Spec realm. Jan's DH runs fine [ but hot] as does my UL-1. It is said to have lots of torque, hence the M445 I've tried. Will try with an X442 next to see what happens.

I have read many forums on the airplane side and the outrunners and the heat is not a problem...expect it is what I am told. I am not saying run at any temps but those are in line.

Toni Put a coumpter fan on it and cool the motor with air, I did it with my P Hydro and got a Second at the Nats with that setup.

I stand corrected -I knew it was something like that. At those temps the boat would start melting !!
