my strut is set the same as Doms', the back of the strut is level with the sponsons and the nose is angled up about 2 deg. This should help keep the nose of the boat down.
      Also where's you COG set?

          exotica nice looking cat
just 2 things, what sort of flex/prop shaft setup are you running?
in the pics it shows little to no gap from strut to drive dog, but you maybe running a sqaure drive
i could be wrong but the strut you have is a flat bottom strut and i think it is usally used on hydros and riggers as it creates lift
          just my thoughts

Oz...im not sure of the flex/prop shaft, its 4mm in diameter. The rest of the hardware is Speedmaster. Thats right there is no space between the strut and drive dog, ide say 2mm at the most. Yes the strut does have a flat bottom and I have made some adjustments which i have yet to test in the water. Castle has replaced my Hydra in record time which is now back in the boat.

Heath...great vid mate and thanks for posting. What kind of speed you getting???

I reckon around the 51-52 mph range. NExt club day we are going to do 2 lap time trials so i will t'll put the GPS in it then to find out excactly..
Good news on the ESC, now just go and test it :)

              Heath

PS.... Give yourself more room between strut and drive dog, atleast the thickness of the flex cable.

...thats quick enough Heath lol. She also looks like she sits in the water quite flat and looks very stable. Whats the reason for leaving room between the strut and drive dog?

...hey Oz, do the flat and rounded struts really make that much of a difference and can someone explain what a square drive is???

...found this on the web. How can one tell by looking at the parts installed on a boat to determine if it is actually a square drive??? My one looks similar but doesnt have the washer behind the strut however there is one just behind the drive dog.

What is the difference between a square drive coupler and the one in my boat??? LOL forgive me if these are stupid questions!

Items Needed for Square Drive Inst.

                  Item 3/16" or 1/4"

Square Drive Cable OC6SQL-24A or OC8SQL-24
                  Flex Ferule 3/16" to 3/16" OCFSF616
                  Flex Ferule ¼" to ¼" OCFSF2525
Stub Shaft & Drive Dog OC6PSM or OC8PS
                  Tail Nut OC8PNU
                  Thrust Washer (Moly-Nylon) 3/16" x 7/16" or ¼" x ½"

you need a gap as the flex shaft will tighten up under load. If you don't it will cause drag and everything will heat up real quick... If your flex shaft is joined to the stub and is round at the motor end then it is not a square drive. IMO your better off with the round cable (min .150) and a standard coupler.

if it has a sqaure drive you will need to take the flex shaft out by the motor end, if you have the typical speedmaster setup were the flex (drive shaft) is removed from the rear of the strut (what it looks like you have) then a gap is needed between your drive dog and strut, the gap is usally around the same as the thickness that your shaft is
as far as the flat bottom strut hopfuly someone else may know more
i was under they impression that flat bottom was for hydros/riggers to help with lift in the transom. it maybe still okay on a cat, if not just sand it round

I have a flat bottom strut on mine and doesn't seem to affect it at all.
