    Turn Fin Sharping/Polishing

Does sharpining/polishing the turn fin on a Hydro help out the boat during cornering? Or is it just a waste of time? I think it would help it turn harder, but thats my opinion.

Post up your comments/suggestions on it.

    Thanks

it should help it go through the water, when i used to sail flying moths we did tons of polshing and sharpining

    and one other thing,
-polished bottom are best for plaining hulls
-nonpolished hulls are best for non plaining hulls

Let's look at the same issue with hulls. Shiney is not the fastest.

I also just saw the Team CRC cat at the lake and THEY sanded the hull bottom steps...I also saw on part of the steps dimples in the finish...outward dimples.

I have video and will have to download it.

Sharpening is one thing but polishing does nothing for performance on anything in the water. A matted surface will be faster.

        There is your answer.

You bet...talk with Tom at Octura. Also there is plenty of other info on this practice in real world ships, etc. Sharpen, balance and run it!

But we all want pretty. Forget that nonsense.

Good question ... How is the surface measured? This is very subjective at the moment. Should folks use a machinists surface gage for comparison? There must be a way to quantify this so folks are all on the same page.

I don't see how it could matter at all, either way on a prop. When it's spinning over 25,000 rpm, the water doesn't care if it's shiny or matte, just sharp!
