    5.5mm vs 6mm

I come from a car/truck background so all of my connectors are currently Deans ultra. Recently I have been heating up the connectors. I was going to switch over to bullets. Is there any reason to go with a 5.5mm over a 6mm plug? The 5.5 seems longer than the 6. What ones have less resistance and more contact area? My lipos has the thickest wires of my equipment at 10 gauge.

    Thanks,
    George

While in theory the 6mm will handle a higher current, in reality more depends on the quality of the plug than its size. German-made plugs are best, with a tight fit insuring maximum contact and lowest resistance. Many Chinese plugs are loose and poorly gold plated, so their resistance will be higher. A 6mm Chinese or a 5.5mm German? I'll take the German. But even the Chinese 5.5s are better than Deans after a few high current uses.

Any thoughts on the Traxxas high current connectors?

I don't think it will fare much better. I don't own anything Traxxas nor will I ever.

its all about surface area and two plates vs a nice circumference, I think you will find several times more surface area in the bullet.

Okay so hobby city has two different sets of 5.5mm bullets. One for $4.99 and one for $11.73. Anybody use these.

            Thanks,
            George

I always use Castle Creations 6.5mm connectors. Steven now has some 8mm connectors but I have not tried them yet.

Since I started using the CC 5.5's and have never had any heat problems related to connectors.

Well I have some 6mm comming (if they ever reach here) but the boat I'm getting from Diegoboy is set up with 5.5mm. While looking for batteries for that boat I stumbled upon these Nd was just wondering if anybody had any experiences with these. I'm probably gonna stick to the 6mm but was curious about the price differences between those two.

I just got a shippment of 100 pairs of 6 mm connectors from a China source that proved to be very good. They will easily take 10 wire. They fit so tight I was afraid I was going to pull the wire out of the socket before the connectors released. Price was about $30 for the 100 pair of 6 mm gold plated connectors. I also bought 100 sets of 4 mm and they were about 1/2 the price.
