mixing 2 and 3 cell packs?

    Hi all,

anybody got any info if this is ok? I want to run 1 x 3 cell 5000mah pack, and 1 x 2 cell 5000mah pack, wired in series to give 18.5v, 5000mah. Dont want 1 x 5cell pack, I am trying to split the repair/replacement bill if a pack or single cell goes bad, it also gives a bit more flexability having 2 seperate packs for other heli/boat uses!

    Thanks

    Perfectly OK.
Just make sure that they are of the same brand, the same Mah rating, the same 'C' rating & preferrably always have the same number of cycles through them. If you are buying new ones keep them as a matched pair.

    Cheers.
    Paul.

What if one has a slightly higher C rating? My two cell is 20c and my three cell is 25c. Both are 5000 mah. Would this be exceptable?

Probably not, the different C ratings would mean one pack will discharge faster. Identical cell, yes. Different cells, no. Read from the above post:

Just make sure that they are of the same brand, the same Mah rating, the same 'C' rating...
It's your boat, do what you want. You did ask for advice......

I always order the 2 and 3S of the same exact cell brands, C rating and mah. This gives me all the combos I want 2-3-4-5-6 S. Nothing but 5000 mah and 30-40 C on the cheap cells.

I hear the new cell are out with 45/90C ?

Andrew over at RRR has some news on them....others will be getting cheap fast.

Yeah when I ordered I ordered all of em in 20c but my three cells came as 25c. They wernt really bought to run as a five cell, nor do I even run a five cell. Just was wondering if something close would be okay for a pass or two.
