I use MG Chemicals Confromal coating it is $21.00. I get it from Frys Electronics. You need to be careful of the contacts I use clay to keep the coating off the contacts. It is great for all circut boards.

I use a similar spray in certain places. It works well. I suggest spraying a few coats on the item you want to protect. Otherwise if its say a esc with no srink wrap, its possible that it will rub off a bit if only a single coat.

Since its like a coat of spray paint it isnt to bad. If you have to repair a esc than it will be an issue to work around. The only esc's that really need something like this are the Asian ones, and those are replaced. Not repaired as far as I know.

I'd say coating it thick enough is the key. I often spray a little into a tiny cup, let it thicken for like 5m and apply it with a paintbrush.

Yes some ESC units have contacts. ETTI speedos have an external 2pin plug for their RPM sensor.

Car speedos often have external rcvr lead terminals..

Bill thats why I suggest a few coats. but your way sounds like a good idea also.

Where I can I always use the epoxy for that reason. Just a thin coating around the fet area. Back in the day, when playing with the conformal epoxy, I have literally run brushed esc's under water when coated right. Where the spray works great is with an esc like the Jeti 600. The jeti comes with a 1 year warranty, so you cant mess with the shrink coating, so I just spray the hell out of one of the open ends and let it drip out the other end.

Yeah Steve, you brought up the most valid point, spraying extra coats. One coat looks almost like there's nothing on there.

Most receivers on the market today (I know Airtronics does) use silicone conformal on them factory. With most electronics mfgrs using it will not void your warranty whereas the benefit of using it is also tat the unit can still be worked on (soldered), and with epoxy its MUCH more difficult and will likely void your warranty.

Epoxy works better than most anything I've seen, Rc Hydros speedos almost NEVER got water damaged

Etti Speedos use a thick silicone/rubber like material that I'd love to get my hands on some of. Coats thick like epoxy, but feels pliable and peels off quite easily for maintenance..
