So I have this Sniper hull...........

I'm proud to say it looks like were going to have some FE racing in IMPBA D12 next year. I want to race with my son as much as possible next year, but it looks like we are only going to have enough FE participants for maybe three races. So I was planning on building a gas boat to compete with while my son races novice for another year or two. I have a DF Sniper hull I bought from Steve a few months ago for the build. So far, all I have done is hang the hardware off the transom. Every once in a while I get this little birdie in my head who tells me to make the Sniper electric. The birdie is getting louder. The only class I would be able to run currently with this hull would be Open Offshore. We have a open Cat class in D12, but not mono. I may possibly be able to get the powers to be to allow FE's in open nitro mono. I am well aware of the cost and effort involved. So I'm asking all you big boat guys, Is this feasble? How much hurt am I going to put on a Schulze controller and a big Neu or Lehner motor running a one mile heat and be competitive. And would it even be possible to run a offshore heat? I know we all love electrics, but be straight up with me boys!!!

I don't know if you'll be able to make the trip running offshore, it depends on the course.
Unless you get lucky you'll easily have a grand in motor and speed control.
A T-Mono in Open Nitro Mono, I'd ask before I build it.
How do you feel about, dare I say it...........??????????

Set it up with a Schulze 40.160. Get a set of 5S 6,000 mAh packs to run 10S2P @ 12,000 mAh. Use around a 650 to 750 Kv motor. Prop it with a 460/3 or 462/2. Go have fun.

For an average heat race with a full mill I would use 6,000 mAh (+/- 3 minutes). Prop down to a 457/3 for Offshore and with 12,000 mAh onboard you should not have any worries.

I run my gas Sniper in open offshore. It is a great offshore boat.

      I'd use either a 3080/8 (656 Kv) or 3080/7 (750 Kv) or a 2230/1Y (725 Kv).

But like Doug says, motor and ESC alone will set you back well over a grand. Then you will need enough chargers to charge 4 packs between heats (or have multiple packs). Probably want a generator too.

My advice, do it in gas. I have both and hardly ever run the FE any more, but I run the heck out of the gas. The siren song of a big FE boat will wear thin after a while. Not mention wear down the bank account.
      Don't get me started

My sensible side says it's not worth the expense at least at this stage of the game. I cans swing a burned out Etti or Castle 240 LV in the Titan. Frying a Schulze would hurt. I could run three classes with a $300 stock gas motor. Send the motor in for mod work when I get tired of stock power. Run more heats, have more fun, hopefully become a better racer, faster.
