    1/4 vs 3/16 flex

I'm starting a 41" falcon cat build here is the hull

I'm using the Scorpion outrunner 4035/800 kv on 8s and 10s2p

question is do you guys thing I should use a 1/4" flex that narrows to 3/16" prop shaft or would a 3/16" flex be sufficient?

I am pretty sure I should def use the 1/4" flex but would like some confirmation

That' a great hull, very easy to drive. I think that a 3/16" flex is sufficient

I hope your Scorpion have high torque, this hull isn' t light

Run the .250 with the .187 prop shaft in that size hull. You will be thankful in the long run. Motors with that much torque could easily eat the 3/16 flex.

Yes but the problem is now at the stub. Cutting a 1/4" stub back to fit the small shaft is where you may encounter issues.

You will probably have to solder it well and make sure it sticks. I found that you HAVE to tin a flex shaft first as solder does not want to stick well unless you do make sure this is tinned well. You do have to use some good flux sand and clean that flex very well.

I have never had any issues. I use flex cables from Hughey, they have worked very nicely for me.

And I agree with the others, use the 0.25-inch flex.

              Jeff and Bill

I have the .250 Hughey flex that has the .187 prop shaft ($36) and when I ordered the boat I got a 1/4" strut so as long as I get the propper k&s stuffing tube I should be all right?....what size stuffing tube should I get? i.d.

this is the strut rudder combo I ordered

I use 5/16 ID brass for the tubes on 1/4-inch drive cables. Then I use a brass bushing, either flared or with a collar, inside the strut at the prop end.

the one you ordered looks to have a bushing in it already.

You said it, Bill...Ed has the best as his way of connecting them. Not sure locitite or std solder will hold them but Ed uses something special.

                  Maybe.
