Yea, the motors are externally still in good shape. One of them had melted insulation, but that was from when it was running on 3S.
Just to clarify for everyone, this was my main intention- to "experiment", if you will, to see what these 2880's would do on 5S. I had every intention of replacing the motors no matter what happened. My main goal is to get this boat into the 60's, possibly 70's, maybe even 80's. I've been following the guy who pushed his BJ26 to these limits, and I have every intention of doing the same..

Not to mention that Venom said the boat is "totally fine" on 5s.

Now don't shoot the messenger here...

Now see... that's irresponsible... at least on the very next post they mention you need to get smaller props on to lower the load.

I think he just failed to mention changing the motors to a lower kV. He has mentioned it a few times..

OK, I apologize. I took the post at face value. I see where he added a clarification later.

Not irresponsible from you Bob... the post, granted a little more explanation would be good,

Yep! Can't run 5S on that high a KV motor! It's really made for 3S. 4S is pushing it, but 5S!? No way!

Everybody always wants faster faster faster but they fail to find out what the motors/esc's will take and then complain when something blows.

Damn, am I not typing in english or something? I could swear I said it was my intention to push these motors passed the limit, and potentially blow them. I guess the word "complaining" is a generality around here?

Dude, this whole thread titled "blown motor" was YOU asking opinions on what happened to your motor and why. Not sure why you'd purposely destroy something, but thats your perogative. You're lucky you didn't cause Way more damage than that! If you don't like the reality that's too bad... I guess i'll apologize for trying to help then. Sorry.

maybe your first post should have explained what your intentions and goals were, guys have read your first post and taken it at face value. with comments like
                        "running 5s with 2880kv motors"
                        "only 5 minute run time"
people look at that and automatically think you have no clue as to what your doing

Now one of the motors will only run out of the water, but once its in the water and has a load, it wont run at all. I just want to make sure this is indicative of a blown motor, or if I may have issues in the ESC?
This has happened to me twice - in two different rigs and esc's (a cheapo china made 100A airplane esc and a 150A Etti). The motor seems to be fighting itself and won't pull when in the water. Each time I ultimately fixed the problem by reprogramming the speed controller. Like eboat said, change your controller and see if that fixes it. There's a good chance the motor is fine and a reprogramming will remedy it.
