I finally got the 5S EKOS onto the water today. Pretty windy and choppy so it didnt make for a good run day. Both the motors (Venom 2880kVs) were running at 160*F, after only about 5 minutes, and no WOT runs. Now one of the motors will only run out of the water, but once its in the water and has a load, it wont run at all. I just want to make sure this is indicative of a blown motor, or if I may have issues in the ESC?
Smoked motor??

I probably shouldn't have said the voltage. I'd rather see what people's opinions are on the condition that the motor has now, rather than what the conditions the motor was in while it happened..The RTR Nightmare- Electric King of Shaves

Im willing to bet I never went past 30k RPMs. Maybe a few times when the boat got airborne. The math on this setup says it should do deep into the 70mph range, I barely got into the 40's. And yes, I do know it would never do 70mph, but I never went WOTThe RTR Nightmare- Electric King of Shaves

you ran 2880 kv motors on 5s and then say the motors got hot after only 5 minutes
that kv even on 4s would be just acouple short squirts then bring it in.
running at partial throttle wouldnt help eitherComment

Over volting and not compensating with a smaller prop?
Lots of wind and chop?
REEEEEALLY LONG run times, specially for that kinda power push?
I smell setup for failure...
Try switching ESCs on the motor that is not working and see what happens, if the same happens then it's the motor, if it doesn't, it's the ESC or the battery. Then switch the battery packs and if the same happens then it's the ESC.
On a personal note... Why are you blowing money on this? What's the point of having this Cat on 5s?:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

your probably rite, as you know a brushless motor will fairly much put out what is jammed into it till it dies
a mate and i data logged a 380 fiegao motor that was producing around 2300 wattsbut yes not for long
will try and get the data run from that if he still has it
we knew it was going to have a short life but wanted to see how it would goComment

Sounds like not many were following you on the EKOS thread.
Well you cannot say that you really didn't expect this to happen.
Venom has told me that the ESC's thermal shutdown works very well and it survived my motor meltdown. Hopefully they are correct as I took them on faith (may have been a stupid move on my part); we'll see.
Since the option of replacing the motors from Venom is out of the question for quite a while, I guess you will install the Neu's that were waiting anyway.Comment
