Weight is an issue with small boats, especially hydros and cats. I would say to find out the amps that the motor pulls and get a pack that has a total c rating is 40% or more percent higher than the motor amps. For instance if the motor will pull 40 amps. Look for a 20c 3000 pack or 25c 2500 pack.
What is the calculation to figure that out Steve? Now what is the difference between the number of cells as well? I was going to go with a 2 or 3 cell.
I see some packs that say 3s1p. What does the 1p stand for?
Ken
The 3S is the number of cell voltage in this case 11.1V, the 1P stands for the number of cells in parallel. it could be 2P which would be a total of 6 cells at 11.1V

Im looking to just run 1 pack. So to my understand i would just need a plain ol 2s or 3s pack right? Nothing with 1p or 2p? I am just not sure if I want to run a 2s or 3s pack. Any ideas on that? It's an 18" hydro with a 40a 3600kv motor with a 60amp esc.
Just a plain ole pack is 1P. Forget 1P, it doesn't mean anything. 3600KV motor you could run 2S or 3S. It will be a rocket on 3S. Watch your prop size! 3S on that motor will want a very small prop!
