    Colored Carbon Cloth?

Have any of you guys used the multi colored carbon cloth as a strengthener on a hull bottom? Seems it would look cool in a hull. But I haven't seen it used much.

It is used a lot in airplanes, especially high end gliders. Looks very cool and is just as strong as black CF. Keep in mind that it is usually a weave fo CF and Kevlar, which makes for a very strong fabric.

I have several big thermal duration gliders that get slammed in to the landing circle very hard for landing and the fuses hold up great.

I am not 100% sure but I read that the Kevlar is pretty hard to form around the curves. I know I love to use the carbon and it looks sweet!!! If someone did use the carbon/kevlar I would like some feedback too. I could get the colors to match my hulls.

Yep, forgot to mention that. I am also not certain how well it works with polyester resin. Everything I have seen it done with used epoxy.

The kevlar also frays when you cut into the hull. I had it in my Version 3 of Miss Bardahl. the bottom was rock solid for sure butit was a problem when I had to cut the stuffing tube you couldn't get a real clean edge and I have to make sure I resealed it and soaked it in epoxy.

if you take hair spray and spray the edge area of what you are cutting and let it dry....it helps this problem 100%

The stuff looks really cool but some of the things I have read about Kevlar drives me back to the all carbon fabric. If you get the 2 x 2 twill pattern, it has a 'coolness' factor all its own.

Actually it was after the hull was laid up and I was cutting the stuffing tube slot that it happened

I use a fiskar's brand sissors from menard's. It is about 10" long and the bottom blade is serated. It holds the kevlar cloth very well. We have stopped using the kevlar because of the cutting and edge issues. It also tends to soak up a lot of resign and adds weight.

Steven, if you want some samples, Doug Peterson gave me his stock, have a little red kevlar and black carbon and a lot of the blue kevlar and black carbon. Let me know what size if you want some, it would be gratius for all you do for us boaters.

We have a club member that makes complete 1/10 scale hulls from carbon/kevlar. Super light and the corners are very sharp. He seems to really like the stuff. His hull also works very well. If you wanted more specific answers maybe I can have him get ahold of you.

Jeff thanks for the offer. Hang on to it for now, I'm going to use some basic carbon I bought.
