Are Feigao motors a slotted or slotless design? How many poles? Thanks.

They are 2-pole... and when I too one of mine appart to replace the bearings... the rotor was a solid round cylinder... Not sure what was inside, but I'm assuming this means it's NOT slotted...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Slotted-slotless refers to the way the windings in the can are installed. In a slotted motor (supervee for one) the wires are wound around steel laminations much like the armature in a brushed motor except the windings are attached to the can. This produces less power and not as smooth at low rpm. A slotless motor doesn't have the laminations in the can, just the windings. This produces more power and better efficency because there is more wire and because there are no gaps in the windings also produces smoother opperation at low speeds. I was hoping that the Feigao motors were slotless. The Ammo in runner series by Great planes are slotless.Comment

Awwh... I believe they are "slotless", but I'd have to take one appart to be sure... They don't have ANY cogging and rotate very freely by hand...
In trying to understand better, I found this from AMMO:
Explains a lot about these designs...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Thanks, I saw that pdf too. I want to buy a Feigao motor from Offshore but I wanted to find out first. Seems like slottless is the way to go. I checked the Feigao motor site and they made no mention of their motors being slotted or slotless.Comment

I'm not sure if I'd agree with that... According to the Neumotors website:
Originally posted by http://www.neumotors.com/20061222/15%20series%20data.htmlAll 15 series motors have 12 slot stators and 4 poles rotors
I don't claim to be an expert on this by any means, but I believe it has more to do with the combination of designs, rather than just saying that "slotless" are a better option...
In the case of the Neumotors... they have 12-slots, and 4-poles on the rotor (and LOTs of heavy Iron in the core... and excellent magnets... and terrific bearings...)... This seems to be a more effective/efficient comination, in general, than the 2-pole Nemesis motors with their apparent slotless design and 2-poles...
Not saying that either wouldn't work, just saying that perhaps the general idea that slotless is better isn't quite accurate...
Maybe Jay will step in and fill in the blanks here... he seems to have a good handle on this level of technical details... All I know is that motor for motor, the Neus and Lehner's generally seem to outrun and have more power than the Nemesis and Hackers... and I know at least the Neu is a slotted design... or at least that's what I believe the "12 slot stator" is referring to...Darin E. I am really watching this thread. I plan to invest in top of the line electronics for the Jolly. The combination I am running now with the hex and feigao are just for fun and sport. It will get me by this summer. Next year I am going to try my hand in a couple events. I want the proper equipmnet.Comment
