Snapped Cables
I used to run a K&B 0.21 and am planning to go electric with the REK lower. On my K&B I drilled two small holes in the side of the lower unit...one near the top and the other at the stub shaft. I used an epoxy syringe with a small tip to pump "blue" Prather marine grease through the shaft housing of the lower after each race and used the same cable for 10 years...it was still in the lower when I recently sold the boat!
Perhaps having this way to grease the cable w/o having to take the shaft out after each race would help? Allowing a little "float" also sounds like an excellent idea which I will be sure to do.
