    Brushless Black Jack Hits 52.5 Mph

    Well, I went out this aft and ran the BJ with the 120 Hydra and a pack of my 5S LiPo's ( charged to 20.8V ). I just had the stock SV motor from my conversion earlier this year installed. It's apparently rated to 18 V so I decided to see what would happen .
    Well the GPS came back with a max of 52.5 Mph :D . However it took a while to get that reading because after 5 laps around the pond,,,things just stopped Oh well, now we know the limits of the motor,it was fried !

    Sure was fun for those 5 laps.

    Now the search for a new motor begins.

    Steven , what will fit the SV mounting bracket, handel the 20ish Volts and is not much longer than the SV motor ( it can't be much more than 1/4 " longer as there are space restrictions due to the battey placement) , and will handle the standard SV prop ?

    I happen to have a bit of cash and would love to contribute to your kids education fund !

    I want to get this baby back in the water ASAP .

    Thanks

      Being new at this I am interested in the "gps readings" that indicate your speed. How does this work and are there other methods to see how fast your boat is going?

          Doug;
          Theres not to much around here. We are trying to set up a FE division of our local club and get formal access from the city to the pond that we use . Plus , I'm not sure a lot of the FE's I have would fit in any of the classes. One of these days , we hope to do a "Run What You Brung" type of fun event. Maybe next year.

          Motobox; GPS, Global Positioning System works off of sattelites and can calculate the speed and distance etc form a small battery powered receiver in the boat. They are fairl accurate.

            Sensorless controllers (most current ESCs are sensorless) can run BL motors with any number of poles.

            GPS units are extremely accurate, I've had them in my record boats and they are usually less than 1 mph off the trap speed - which is actually an average speed, not a true top speed. They are superior to radar and the pitot tube systems, and generally cheaper too.

            You may have been able to go faster longer by using a smaller propeller. When you increase the voltage you should use a smaller prop to start, to prevent the meltdown like you had. How long is the SV motor's can?

              The can measures about 52mm.
              I figured that I would be sacrificing a motor, I wanted to see if it would be able to take it:D

                I would say make some extra room and us a xl motor. They will handle the heat / voltage better than the "L" sized motor.

                    you might want to look at out runner motors, fegiao are in runner type, they can be very small with alot of power, mostly for airplanes but guys are starting to use them in 1/8 scale buggy class
