    Waterproofing a hatch

    Hey guys,
Sorry for creating so many threads in advance.

Here's my problem. As a hatch on this Kyosho Viper boat, I've been using a piece of plexiglass secured with some makeshift body posts and pins. However, even with using some hatch tape on the edges, the seal is not so good and I'm getting lots of water in the hull (which probably contributed to my ESC frying)

Keep in mind this boat is a total refurb and there are no parts for it. So...does anyone have ideas on how I can make this more watertight?

Here is a picture...yes the hatch is CLEAR plexiglass and this was before i added some hatch tape to the edges.

    Thanks in advance, Mike.

In addition to hatch tape, you could use some type of waterproof weather stripping. Like this...

Yes, I have done a bathtub test and it was fine. I could see water crashing over the top when I was running it so I know that is the main source of entry.

domwilson...where did you get that material? hardware store?

You can get all sorts of sizes and density foam/ rubber gasket with an adhesive backing from Ace Hardware stores, Auto parts stores will have them.. I think Ive even seen some at Wallmart.

Interesting...I'm assuming this is found in the plumbing section? I might stop at the Ace tomorrow.

Actually, I got mine from a window air conditioning unit I installed in my window. But I think you can find it at most hardware stores.
