    Fried the HiModel 125A

    Hey guys,

So I recently installed a himodel 125A in that Kyosho Viper...and it rips...I would estimate a 40 mph range?

Anyway, I waterproofed it VERY well. Around 6 coats of dp270....

However, today I didn't see that there was a lot of water in the hull...so I plugged it in and POOF!!! the magical smoke went out.

So either there was a pinhole in my waterproofing...or the ESC is defective.

Really my question is has anyone else fried a HiModel ESC before? I know this was probably due to my not-so-good waterproofing, but none the less I would like to see

    Michael,
I have a 200amp Himodel that I sprayed with Conformal Silicone to waterproof... I think that is better if you allow them to breath and seal the hull well then dunk it in Epoxy.

Waterproof the hull and set the esc in the hull so that IF some water gets in it will not flood/immerse the esc. This is for an upright or inverted hull.

I have wet a few esc's and they have survived because I was able to dry them in the sun. They got wet for reasons that I now know and can prevent happening again.
          See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

It is a matter of time, from seconds to hours.

The best waterproofing method is dipping or pouring. Coating by brush may not cover 100%

I have used the cheap himodel, 70, 125 amp models and they work great. but any moisture, and especially shorts (cooling plate touching the wires etc) will fry them. I used the 70a version in my 6s 8th scale buggy and beat it into submission...it lasted quite a while. the 70a model lasted longer the the 125. Mine fried just after programming...and it was either a shorted wire, or touching something inside the hull that made it smoke.
I am entertaining the thought of trying one of the 200a himodel...and comparing it to a fan cooled, ez run from hobbywing (which is the seaking 180a, cooling plate replaced with a fan).

All good points...I do admit that I brushed on the epoxy so it probably wasn't very watertight

And in addition, I need to watertighten my hatch...I should have worked on that before running this thing.

The ESC is drying for about a week. I might plug it in on friday and see what happens. At least my LiPo is okay.

Next time I'll have to mount the ESC differently too, and maybe put some sponge in the hull to soak up any water...
