a couple of us in my club have been kicking this idea around some. my thought is to use a pitot tube and adjust the flap in response to changes in air speed.
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

most real world applications of tunnel tabs are not active and are not consantly variable at all.
they are set for the water conditions and the balast the boats cary to stay in class to compress better.
all you will be doing it making the stern lift and drop, also probably a couple seconds later then it should have been.

yes, but these cats wont have adjustable ballast anyway, thats a whole other thread

I think a tunnel tab will have a much more dramatic effect on a scaleboat..
just look what the fixed tunnel tab does to the TS Jolly cat

If you are sport running, you might be able to sort an adjustable tab out, but at the length of time that heat races are I'm not sure it would be useful! Just don't think you're running long enough!

                Tunnel flap

OK this is where I'm at . I am going to make it out of carbon fiber sheet , Also I'm trying to make it plug&play so that if it doesn't work i can adjust it so that it is level with the tunnel . I think it will work , just not sure how well. BONEWAR

                        Tunnel wing

                        OK,

Hear it is, the prototype , Tunnel wing . I have extended the tunnel on the cat to allow me to put the wing towards the back transom( just like the real Maritimo's of old). The wing will only go down as far as the tunnel extension. I will not use this wing until i have the Cat up and running fast . Then i will add the gyro to the system and the fun will begin. Bonewar

                          Hmm..

                          Nice work Bonewar.
The wing in my cats tunnel is solid fixed, and manually adjustable, i think this idea you have brought to life is awesome.
                          Look forward to your results..

being a helicopter nut first, there are some very fast gyros and servos, I was going to do this on my 1/6 scale unlimited to control the lift of the wing.

its a great idea! but only testing will tell...(these servos are for fitment only)
