I dont see any reason why it shouldn't work. I prefer and offset rudder and water pickup behind the prop myself.

what size boat and power are you looking to use it for?

            Doh,

should work just fine, for a race boat I would probably go for a separate strut and rudder, if its a sport boat then should be good to go.

A: To keep the rudder out of the prop wash.

Q: What is the problem with solid rudder brackets/strudder units that necessitates the introduction of the slop from 2 extra hinges to fix?

                    1. I don't like the pickup being under the strut like that, too much drag for my liking.
                    2. I run an offset rudder because i RACE ovals, so pretty much all of the turning is to the right, The rudder behind the prop interferes with the prop flow a little and its meant to cost a LITTLE bit of speed.

I used to run a nitro class one cat with a centered rudder and it did turn left pretty well, though in saying that, my current petrol class one cat has a right offset rudder and it still turns left without any bad habits.

when you get higher speed they can become very twitchy in the steering

I have played with centered and off set rudders.
As far as my experience goes they turn just fine with the off set rudder.
In fact with the rudder behind the prop there are a few issues. The drag is increased over an off set one. They can become overly sensitive when directly behind the prop, they generally need to be a little deeper to get to clean water.

My cat would change direction like a pinball with the rudder offset to either side.
It is now on the right as it looks nicer to me.

I think the set from R2hobbies looks slick but has some drawbacks that have been covered.

They also carry a single arm unit that is placed off to the right or left or centered it appears.

although they have it assembled wrong LOL

What the h*ll is that bulky part underneath the end of the strutt ???
a "flowdisturber " ????? to avoid water reaching the prop ? LOL !!!

Ehm ; is there a bushing in the rudderaxle ??
I hope so, if not : there will be a lot of "play" and friction !!!! All these seperate parts that make 1 rudderbracket !!!!
