    Caribbean Cruiser 2 mods

well....now that i have the spare time, i have started to work on the CC2.....so far i have gotten rid of that tube thing on the bottom of the hull and used a peice of the battery try to cover the hole (epoxy drying right now)....i also found out that with the 4mm bushings taken out, the diameter inside the outdrive is too big for a 3/16" shaft....in fact, i can take the 3/16" bushing from the SV27 and it will wiggle arond in there its so big....it has a 6mm inner diameter

im going to have to think some things over now....im thinking of just using a regular 4mm solid shaft and just use a flex coupler for the motor/shaft connection and the upgrade graupner 4mm to 4mm U joint.....i hope it will hold up the 700SC....i also found that graupner 4mm threaded props will work w/ the origional traxxas prop shaft, so thats good as well....

did some more work w/ the hull...epoxied in a wood backplate to help rienforce the plastic (the aluminum ones quicksilver made werent small enough to fit)

here are a few pics of the progress

i still have to sand the cover on the bottom to smooth it out, so it still looks rough in the pics....

I'm so glad you are doing something with that boat. Makes me feel better that it went to a "good" mad scientist!

well, it turns out the outdrive wont work actually....the screw on the hinge that hold the hinge together and can be loosened to adjust the angle of the outdrive stipped on one....i also found that when trying to turn the outdrive using a pushrod that because the hinge is loose it will push the outdrive down when turning it right so it will give it negative angle and will pull it up to give it positive angle when turning left........i dont know how they stay at the angle they are when on the villain, but it wont work with this hull...i also have a proboat outboard, but it will mount too high on the hull...i could use the other outdrive, but im saving it for the villain....ill just end up using the strait shaft then...oh well...

if i use a flex, i would have to buy a strut, and they way the back is a strut wont work....

im talking about the hinge on the traxxas outdrive that allows the outdrive to move up and down....normally, you would loosen the screw to adjust it and tighten it back up to keep it in that position...well, i overtightened it and stripped it, so now even with the screw in all the way, i can move the outdrive up and down easily...

the other one i have doesent have a stripped screw, but im saving it for the villain...i do have the proboat outdrive i could try on the villain....

i just drilled out the proboat strut....i drilled it out so a bushing for a 3/16" shaft fit snugly in it....then i realized the bushing was supposed to turn with the shaft and wasnt stationary (doh!)..because the bushing is stationary it causes too much friction in the shaft and doesent turn as freely as i would want it.....i tried it w/ a 3/16 propshaft only and its too loose in there...a good chance it will probably wobble too much if i even did try it....

can you show me a side pic of the hull? and maybe hold up a strut next to it I might be able to give you an idea on how to mount it.
oh give your hulls a good scrub when you use epoxy cause it looks a little greasy in there and rough up the plastic with 60grit sand paper to give the epoxy something to"bite" but you may have already done this:p looks good though keep up the good work!

well the u-joint in the traxxas outdrive kept it at a set angle, without the u-joint it will flop. Not quite sure how your setting it up so it would flop. you also didnt use my aluminum plate.

edit: looking at that transom, no you cannot use a traxxas outdrive with no support for the drive.

i wanted to use the aluminum plate you made, but they wouldnt fit in where i had to mount the outdrive....the screws were set low and the plate would be sticking out of the bottom of that boxy thing the outboard is mounted on if i did use it...no support of the drive? how would the drive be supported on the traxxas villain then?

dont worry, i still use the drives and aluminum plates...just not on this boat....

im going to use a 4mm solid shaft, so i wont need a strut.......i wouldnt have room to mount the rudder off to the right, but a supervee27 rudder looks like it might fit on the box mount thing the origional rudder was on.....so ill probably end up using an inline rudder/prop setup....

the thing is i wont start this until i buy the radio system for the SW36.....i have enough money to get it, its just my b-day was only a couple weeks ago and i got alot of boat stuff.....plus were currently renovating the house and that costs alot...so my parents dont really want to spend so much money right now....

what speeds would i get using the SV27 motor/esc in the CC2? i would hope for high 20's low 30's....what prop size would i be looking at if i used graupner 4mm threaded props (i beleive they have 1.4x pitch)....this will be on 12 cells....ill probably still use the 700 at first, but i might eventually try the supervee system in it....i could temporarily use the system i bought from SJFE to see how the results are....if they end up being good, i think i might buy a new system and use it instead....

I gather that from what I've heard, that you would get performance similar to the 700sc/ss1 with a sv motor. perhaps a small gain due to lighter weight. so if a 700 could push your cc2 to the high 20's low 30's then I would expect the sv motor to do likewise, w/o having to worry about all the brushed motor concerns. there is one drawback to the sv power system-no reverse.
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

im fine w/ no reverse....i can cool the motor better too....the OSE metal cooling jacket will cover almost all of the can of the SV motor....
