    Checking Lipos

This might seem to be a stupid question, but does someone make a cycler/discharger for lipos to check if they're any good any more. I have 20 4500mah 25c pks that were purchased last winter and have been run in boats, mostly UL-1 and now I'm having issues with run time and performance in a 1/10 scale dirt sprint car. Now, these were cheap batteries, and I'm not expecting miracles, but does someone make a load tester where you could monitor each cell and see which ones are bad? Thanks in advance-Russ

Most or some chargers have dis=charge feature. However I think the ICE by duratrax has 20 amp discharge.. I think. If you are able to hook a balancer to your packs while discharging you should see the numbers you need while making sure nothing is going terribly wrong with a single cell. I think. It 's not a load test really but you should see if your voltage drops before your MAh depleats.

I load test my LiPos with large wire resistor in series with 200A current shunt. I made the resistor out of 40 feet of 9 AWG steel chain link fence wire. I calculated resistance needed to give me 150A load at my voltage. This way I can see voltage drop in the LiPo without having to risk blowing my controller. Wire coils get very hot instantly, I lay them down on concrete floor with big fan blowing over them.

New Hyperion 0720 Net3 charger has the capability to "cycle" LiPos, under small power of couse. (250W charge/ 80W discharge). everydayflyer from rcgroup.com did a lot tests on LiPos, that might be what you are looking for.

Thanks guys-My Accucell charger only discharges @ 1 amp with the capibilty to monitor each cell. Maybe that will be enough, I need to find out if I can "trust" these batteries anymore or not. Thanks again-Russ
