    KD Brushless motors

As not to thread hijack Grahams Rio Roses fountain thread, a new thread for the discussion of the KD 540 sized motors is needed

I'm going to take apart my 6XL, I could be wrong about this motor not having bearings.. my bad, it looks jacked compaired to my real 8XL..

Also that KB45 looks killer, I may pick one up for my Mean Machine and see what breaks!
The KD 540 sized motors comes from the same place that makes the KB45 sized motors
I have a KD 540 8s and I can tell you its pretty much identical to the fiegao, it does indeed have bearings.
About 8-9 months back Hobby king were selling these but they had BLACK endbells, and there were reports of them not going so good. I think the manufacturer or method has changed as now they look identical to the Fiegao 540 sized motors apart from the wire.

I believe the KDs are a copy of the Fiegao motors
I do like the KDs, I have a 6XL in my Revo and that thing kicks the MMM Revo butt!
It does get hot though and use lots of amps..
I just orderd a new 9XL KD to try again in my MM, and hoping for better results this time

Ah dude, thats not the actual motor you will get.. thats the OLD one that got hot fast, HK obviously have not updated their pics. I have ordered since then.

The actual ones that arrive are silver endbell, and yeah as near the end of my last post i said the wire was diff.

The factory that makes KD is a hit and miss. Some times their stuff is good and sometimes not so good.

                I have a KD6XL "black endbell"
                It is insane
65mph in my rigger with a low cost Mystery esc and Rhino pack from HK.
I wonder how fast it would go on real high quality components ??
                See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

lets see if i can help you work that out simon with some basic mathematics
                  your setup (n.z $)
                  kd 6xl $40
                  esc $70
                  battrie $60
                  total = $170
                  high qaulity setup (n.z $)
                  motor $250
                  esc $350
                  batterie $180
                  total $780
                  divide $780 by $170 = 4.58
multiply your top speed 65mph by 4.58 =297mph
looks like its time you brought some good gear and headed for the s.a.w.s

I will say who builds them is a big difference..
quality control is not that great with the KDs, some are great, and some are not..
wish my KD6XL was not such an amp hog, but it does rip!
I've replaced two rear axles and main back shaft on my Revo because it has gobs of power! and whops on the MMM Revos nice!
                    run time sucks though

Thats the problem. Lots of their motors are poorly assembled and amp hogs. Amp hogs that are inefficient. I got tired of handling the 45mm series motors. Some where great, others were good, and some just blaa.

I can understand and appreciate why Steven would not want to sell these KD/KB motors due to their dodgy quality control, we have come to expect only products with a good track record from OSE.
However for those prepared to risk a few dollars on an 'el cheapo' alternative and maybe get lucky with one that was put together correctly it's worth the risk for a non competition application.
If we want the good stuff we know to shop at OSE.
                        Graham.

It's kind of a hit or miss with these motors..
I've had two KDs, burn but the cheap price keeps me comming back to buy more..
