I used to hate the no reverse thing, but really after a while you get used to it, and imo become a better driver. I only wish I had reverse on my jet boat, to clear the intake. I sucked up some Chinese water chestnuts the other day and caused quite the problems, could have been solved in a second with reverse. Thats the price you pay for escs that handle ridiculous amps.

Couldn't you install a screen over the intake? I wouldn't think that would restrict flow much.
I am sure no reverse isn't as much of an issue with boats as it is with my nitro monster trucks, but I was hoping.
I don't plan to do any racing. What I actually want the boats for is for when I am out fishing on my 1:1 boat and get bored. I am thinking I could just take a break and drive the rc boat and then go back to fishing.

I pretty succesfully made a grate for my other jet boat, however, it does restrict flow no matter how you do it and I found weeds still would hang up on the grate, they wouldnt get in, but they get stuck.
I've seen it happen on real jetboats. My sis and her husband had a 18ft Seadoo bow rider, with twin 120hp jets. That thing would also foul up on these chinese chestnuts. Theyre nasty plants. They even had a grate that opened so you could expell weeds and alas the weeds would still hang on, forcing one of us to dive under the boat. Not fun, the boat did do over 70mph though :)
Trick for the hudson River, just stay away from the weeds. In my case the other day, the leaves of the plant would just cover the intake, so I literally couldnt move the boat even though nothing was inside the drive.
I would have made a grate for this boat, but it really has to have a removable grate which isnt easy to make, as I built this boat for all out speed and not necessarily river running like my other jet boat or previous versions of this boat. I've found small jig saw blades work well, but theyre a pain to install and look kind of ugly, but on the other hand hardly impede flow.
BAH!, you've got me thinking again. lol The grate on my jet boats has always been the biggest brain buster, especially since they use plastic impellers. Here's a pic of the one I made on my other boat, but again it cant be removed.
