Vacu-DILL!! w/UL-1 Elec

Just finishing this one up. Very impressed with the quality of this kit (Vacu-Pickle). Wanted to take some pictures before fast freddy drives over it this weekend!

Has anyone else ran cooling this way? Inlet, ESC, ESC, motor, out??? It was easier to package the tubing like this since I routed the outlet to the side (I like to watch the water exit and make sure she's getting water).

Very nice build... Your cooling should work fine in that configuration. Now you need to get a NAMBA card and come out to race with us!!!!

I think you may find that the ESC needs to be moved up in front of the motor. IME you won't be able to get the CG up far enough by moving the cells forward.

I bet that little hull will scream using the UL-1 motor/esc. The small Octura m440 prop should work verywell in that setup.

I would add extra caps to the esc to guard against esc cap failure.

Thanks guys. No doubt that the CG is WAY too far back. It's nearly 2" from the back of the sponsons. I'll have to think about that one for awhile

I added some pinstriping and man did it make her glow. Almost done. Going to test with a X440 prop. Any reason I should opt for the "M" instead?

Longbull - I definitely plan on getting out there! Hopefully before the end of the season!

What I really like about this thing is the durability compared to the UL-1. A full set of allen wrenchs dropped on the hull today from my pegboard from about 3ft above and not a scratch.

BTW - got the Xtra caps, learned that lesson last month. Thanks!

the M series unloads the prop better and thus reducing temps overall and go faster.
have it balanced and sharpened which will help even more.
BTW, did have the edges "sharpened"? That will make a huge difference.

Great looking Pickle! Should go really well with the UL1 motor.

I'm with Doug on the CG though, definitely get it as close to 1" behind the sponsons as you can. Mine was about 1.75" back originally and it was very difficult to keep it on the water (2x2S1P, BJ26 motor). I added almost 4oz of wheel weights inside the front and it's definitely better.

The water through the ESC first is fine, I run all my boats that way.

Shooter with the CG 2" behind the sponson transoms you'll definately blow it off.

Simply relocating the ESC should make her happy.

Scott, In windy conditions I've had to add approx. 7oz of lead right on the CG to finish races. .

Well, I've never had a boat seal this well in my life! I held it under water (about 5" below the surface for 20 seconds and there wasn't even a DROP inside. I'll test the cooling system for leaks tomorrow and take her out.

I couldn't reliably position the ESC any further forward (worried the tight quarters could loosen my extra caps hanging off the end). I'm going to add some fishing sinkers in the front....or maybe my friend's GPS??

I wonder if it helps to position the weight furthest to the right and left or dead center. You would think it would be less apt to roll if I put the weights further out to the sides (furthest from the axis of rotation). Any thoughts? I suppose slightly more weight in the left sponson would help turning?

I'm curious to see how this will handle compared to the UL-1.

If you'll look at the thread that I posted earlier(post #3) you'll see that the UL-1 esc will fit there perfectly, almost like it was designed that way.

about the only problem I've noted with mine(so far) is having too much throw on the rudder. I've also had it upside down
