    Testing an ESC

Today a friend at work brought me a CEN Aquajet. It is in pretty rough shape, and about the only good thing on it is the hull. I told him I would have a look at it and repair it for him if possible.

The motor will work when hooked up directly to the batteries, however when you hook the batteries up to the system it seems to heat up the wires almost instantly. I suspect he has wired the ESC wrong, and possibly done permanent damage.

Is it possible to test the ESC, and find out if it is at fault?

No ideas here guys? I have the boat torn apart now and may just rebuild it with something from scratch, but would still like to figure out a way if this esc is still good.

Mike, what is the setup..the motor and ESC sound like they are damaged. A new drivetrain system..motor..ESC..prop ...batteries may solve the problem, but to be blunt..toss that boat !!
It is not worth the upgrades

There shouldn't be much wrong to hook up, unless he wired the battery to go into the output of the esc or the input backwards. If its a 700 motor, I wouldn't toss it just yet. There are plenty of good deals out there for used items that would work well in this boat. Jump in the swap shop and look or request a brushed esc that would work with the 700 motor. You should be able to pick one up for $20-$40.
