What ESC are you guys using for 540 7XL-12XL builds?

What ESC are you guys using for 540 7XL-14XL builds using 12-16 cells for sport not racing? I am curious to see what has been reliable for people with these types of builds. I would like to get some feedback and Pictures on what other people are using. There might be other ones out there for budget minded people instead of the big ticket ones that together we could get some info. Thanks,smaerd58

I have been using Jeti 77 opto controllers for a year now. They have been reliable, but I do not like their thottle curve. Sometimes they act like an on/off switch. Not sure what causes it to happen.

Yeah my Hacker Navy is the same way....it doesn't fell linear like my Cuda's and Hydra's do.

I've used Barracuda 125s, BK2099s, Navy77s and Schulze 18-149s. All worked well, the BK being the most cost-effective. If you prop to pull more amps than the BK can handle, your NiMH cells will last about three cycles. The Schulze is bullet-proof, but it is too costly for sport use. The Castles have been the best for high power running - next to the Schulze of course. The Navy 77s can be programmed to eliminate the hard starting - I hated that!

The Jeti 77 opto has a throttle curve option of linear or logarith. Maybe I need to try logarith for soft start?

I am not recommending this controller.

i used the Mystery 80A for a year. upgraded to Hextronic 120. run with stock settings with no problem. neither is water cooled. $40 each 10 days in shipping. run up to 90 amps.

Reddy, I believe that the JetiBox lets you choose the acceleration rate. Set it for a higher number (IIRC?) to ease the on-throttle response.

All I have is a programming card, but it does not have that option. I guess I need to check into a jetibox.

If you are talking about the Jeti Spin Box, it does not say it will work with the Jeti 77 advance controller.

Nice replies so far guys.Keep them coming. It would be nice to find a good reliable more cost effective ESC that the novice could work with.We should start a forum on these and a step by step water cooling procedures that everyone could follow using everyday items not machining etc. I am sure Steve would support it, Thanks

The Jeti controller says it will work on a 2, 4 or 6 pole motor. You do not need to change any settings. I thought that you needed to change frequency or something to control different pole motors. Can someone explain this? I am changing from a 2 pole motor.

Staying away from PULSO. I know someone that burned up 2 of these 100A back to back running just 14 cells 4200mah. I know everyone has heard or seen someone loose a ECS but 2 back to back makes me worried. Thank God that he had the canopy off because it shot flames up to 6' would have destroyed his boat if it were on the water.I am still looking for budget minded alternatives for sport running that have proven them selves with people,Thanks
