    Where does heat come from?

I looked everywhere for an answer but didn't find it.

What I am looking for is what causes heat in different locations. Battery heat comes from over amping? Motor comes from over propping? ESC heat comes from....ummm..I give. Maybe a combination of stuff?

So what causes what to overheat?

I have a good friend get his lipos to 150 and everything else seemed cool.

I have smoked an SV motor and everything else is cool.

Electrical resistance. Opposition to current flow causes heat, to put it simply.

If you smoke a motor in an SV, shaft was tight? Moss or leaf on the prop? Did you change to a large prop?

Hot batteries.....too low battery pack capacity for application would be my 1st guess. If everything else is cool.

5000mah 25c packs spinning an SV moter through a CC hydra 120. x440 prop in a 1/10th scale shovel.

That is more than likely your problem. What firmware are you using and what motor timing?
I understand that the lipo's get hot from not enough "C" rating for your application or maybe insuffecient connectors. Motor gets hot from over proping and ESC gets hot from not enough amp capability, or half throttle application, or maybe even rough water.

Batteries will get hot usually from too high a current draw. You may have bad or insufficient connectors or too long a wire length. In some cases, poor quality/tired batteries.

Motors can get hot from too much load or timing. Too big or too much pitch on the prop. Sometimes too much advanced timing will cause a motor to draw too much current or make it run hotter. Poor cooling or obstructed cooling system could cause issues as well. Binding in the drivetrain, no lube on the shaft, or a foreign object on the propeller will heat things up as well.
Improper drivetrain alignment (strut depth and angle), boat running too wet, not enough space between drive dog and strut, etc.

ESC's same as motor and batteries. In addition, too much part throttle running.

These are just a few things to check. I'm sure others will have additional info.
