    Large Hydro Build Possible??

I have been looking at the 1/8 Elam Hull as a possible FE build. For me and my limited experience this seems like a pretty large undertaking. Are there Brushless motors and escs sizeable enough for this type of build?

I have always liked the large gasser boats, but electrics is sooooooo much more fun!

I wonder if it is possible to build the best of both worlds?

Check out this 40" Whiplash build. If I were to run a larger hull using electric power this is the hull I would use.

I just registered there, I guess they have to approve it before I can view photos etc. Will take a look when I can, thanks!

In the Pacific Northwest there is a group of FE forming to race 1/7th scale. Here is their website: http://www.electricscaleunlimiteds.com/

Look in the rules and you'll see the Scorpion Outrunner that we use. It is a wonderful motor, fast, easy on the mah, and sounds really good. These 1/7ths, at about 13-14 lbs. are running in the high 40's low 50's for speed. They are a real hoot.

If I remember correctly, Doby on this forum built one sometime ago. You might want to PM him.

Yes, it has been done. What you want to build and what you want to build it for will make your decisions for power (cells) and motors easier. What do you want to do?

I have in the past several years ran an 1/8th scale Open mono and Open Sport Hydro. Others have made open riggers. Some of these are custom designs and some are off the shelf hulls. A friend of mine converted a gas rigger to FE.

And yes, building a big FE can be a huge undertaking especially if you are not familiar with FE.

Why not 1/8? Or is it just to be different?

I had not realized Doby had already done this! What an excellent guide to go by, thanks for all the information guys!

I will have to contact Doby, and put some planning into this monster.

                  Again,
                  Many thanks

Here's Paul Pachmayer's FE Sport 40 Whiplash build

I call it the "Blue Moon" boat because ones like this don't come very often. I've built about a dozen wood Whips from 20s to gassers and this one came out near perfect. I actually didn't want to let it go. I build on a 1 1/2" thick piece of aluminum and once this boat was finished it didn't have a 64th inch of twist front to back. The boat was built for a customer with a bunch of special requests like an entirely foamed in front half with 32nd skins, a bonded cowl, carbon fiber internals etc...

I had built a sister ship to this one that wasn't as nice and it went 105 MPH at the SAWs in LA, I'm pretty sure no other sport hydro has done that.

Anyway, I just had to share the pics of it.

                    Paul.
