Why the DX3S and not the DX3R? The S have the novelty factor of telemetry and realtime temp, rev and voltage display, but the R is a better system in my opinion. Use the Eagletree for data gathering and the radio for controlling your beast. While running, we don't have time (or courage) to glance at the display anyway...

I believe (but may be wrong) that the DX3S radio can use both air and land rx's where the "R" radio is ground use only..at least that's what I've gathered from reading up about the MR3000 marine rx.

            hello

            i had a DX7 (air radio) , it's a DSM2 system . DX3S is in DSM only
anyway i try to bind AR6100 receiver to my DX3R (both in DSM2)
            and it don't work.

i send email to Spektrum in UK and reply is clear : can not work
air radio is not compatible with car radio even if they both use DMS2 ......

OK, here is the skinny on these radios.

The DX3S protocol has been updated to use the same protocol as the air radios (DX7, etc.) and is compatible with the new MR3000 RXs.

The DX3R is their Racing radio, and has NOT yet been upgraded. I believe plans are in the works to do that, but as of yet it hasn't happened.

If you currently own a DX3S, you can send it in and get it upgraded to the new protocol for $50.00 I believe.

I have been using the DX3S with the MR3000, as well as with the SR3100 RXs and it works great with both.

I have had NO issues using this system in my boats, and have run it in both FE and GAS boats.

One other thing you'll find is that the TX is LIGHT!! SUPER LIGHT! Most people that hold my radio are pretty shocked and ask if I have the batteries in it.

Also, the MR3000 RXs are great. I run the main antenna out of the boat, and just lay the secondary antenna inside and have had NO glitches or issues all season. Further, my 1/10th scale has this RX in it and it's been soaked down several times and just keeps right on working. Spray a little Corrosion-X on the antenna plugs and go racing! RX is super compact as well... Decent price... the RX sells for $79.95 at Horizon Hobby, which is less than the SR3100 surface RX.

OH... and yet one more thing... the MR3000 also has built-in parallel circuits... so you can hook up dual ESCs and Dual steering servos directly to the RX. No need for Y-harnesses... Just another cool feature that some may find useful.

I've been very happy with my setups...

Just to add to Darin's post:

The DX3S supports both Marine and Surface receivers. If you have SR-series receivers already, the DX3S will work just fine with them.

                    thanks

I am using DX3S 3140 DSM2 in my SV27. With telemetry receiver I had to do some modification to the receiver and after that it worked well, then I ordered MR3000 which is specially designed marine receiver and now my boat runs perfect. Transmitter is awesome and I reccon for that price is a really good value. I have used Spektrum in my RC helicopter and was very satisfied. So, my advice is..
                    1. Check if you are getting 3140 but not 3130 because 3130 is not compatible with DSM2 and MR300 is DSM2
                    2. Best way to check is look at the back of the receiver, below SPEKTRUM logo there should be a sticker that displays marine compatible.

Let me know if you have any questions

tried my dx3s on the weekend, was only a short 1 minute run but worked great. was a maiden voyage on the boat as well and i liked the temperature sensor on the telemetry

DX3S Signal: no problems with three models (all fiberglass boats). FYI, the receiver is coated with corrosionx and stuffed in a balloon with no antenna mount. Grade: A

3100T surface receiver: Supports only one temp sensor.... Not waterproof. Grade B.

MR3000 Marine receiver : No telemetry. Grade D.

DX3S telemetry: Does not read main pack voltage, just receiver input voltage. Grade Fail

                          Overall grade: B
