    micro servo for 21" mono?

hhi i have been running a ACE RC DS 1015 servo for steering on my 21" oval racer.. but i think havving a big servo to control a little rudder is overkill.. it also adds alot of weight.. i was thinking of running a mini servo for it.. i was thinking maybe a hitec HS85MG servo.. what do you guys think about this idea?

    check it out

Just use a Futaba 3003 ( or equivalent standard servo) and save your money.
Weight is not really a problem.

Your problem is not that the servo is too heavy but that you have too much weight on one side.
I usually have servo on one side, receiver and receiver battery pack on the other, and ESC in the middle.
The boat must be trimmed so that weight is equal or maybe a little more on the l/h side to counter prop torque.

ok but i still dont think i need a huge servo to power a verry small rudder.. id rather have it as a backup for something else.. so what kind of servo do you guys think i should get.. i NEED a mini servo... BTW thanks for the info Graham..

i have seen people run mini servos on small cats but i think it will be better for you to run the bigger one..

This is the exact servo I'm using in the 21" mono (MHZ Speed Star) that I'm building.
