Losing range with Spread spectrum JR10x PCM radio

I've got a 1/10 scale hydro and am using a JR10x PCM with the Spectrum conversion, one receiver with additional remote receiver.

I ran it for the first time today and ran out of range at about 75 yards. This radio has never failed in 12 years of usage. I suspect that the problem is that it is enclosed in a totally carbon fiber hull.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting my range back? Note that these receivers have the small (one inch) antennas. I see no provision for mounting an external antenna. What do you guize do?

    Thanks,

    -terry

        I found this
Anything and Everything for electric flight, your electric superstore, Helicopter store

or you should probably be using one of the surface recoevers with the longer antenna.

Think you hit right on it Jim.

Got it. I'm running an air receiver when I should be running a surface receiver. It looks like the surface receiver does, in fact, have an antenna I can route out of the CF hull.

            Thanks a bunch, Jim.

BTW, I bought Craig Mullen's 1970 Pay 'n Pak dual hemi cabover. I plan to be at the ERCU test session sunday, rain or shine. Hopefully I can find a surface receiver before then.

            Thanks again.

There are a lot who run Spektrum you should be able to find one to borrow but you will have to bind it.

              Running at Cherokee Bay?

Yep. Just inquired from Jeff if there is a map to the Cherokee site. The website doesn't have a link to a map for Cherokee. Hopefully Performance hobby in Burlington will have a surface receiver that will work.

                      DING DING DING!

The surface rx will not bind to an air tx. You need to use an air rx.

The problem you're having is almost certainly due to the CF hull.

The best rx to solve your problem is the AR6250. It has the long antenna like the SR3100 so you can get it out of the CF body. It was specifically designed for CF planes (sailplanes) where the antenna needs to be physically outside the CF.

Because it doesn't have a remote rx it's a lot more convenient to mount. I'll be buying AR6250's instead of AR6200's for my future airplanes (most of my planes have AR6200's in them, a few parkies have AR6100's).
