SR 310 mishap and antenna recommendations

Okay so I have this Du-bro aluminium antenna mount and tube from Kintec that I have been having issues with the tubing coming out of the mount during runs, I've tried everything from CA, silicone, crazy glue and heat shrink on top of that and no luck. Today I was shortening the tube a little and thought it would be wise to just cut around the tube with the antenna from my SR310 still inside rather than take it all apart and sure enough I cut about a 1/4" off the tip of my antenna. Questions are: is my SR310 garbage now? And can anyone recommend a nice one piece antenna mount with tube?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Try to see if you can salvage the SR310. Measure EXACTLY the length of the exposed wire(total of what's left on the antenna and what was cut). Then the antenna that is still connected to receiver box, expose the EXACT length of the exposed wire by cutting the shielding until the wire is exposed. Make sure you measure it to exact length, a caliper would be best. Clean the shielding around the exposed wire just like the way the original looks like. See if this helps. . .I've done this before with one of my receivers and it worked. The important part of the antenna is the exposed silver wire, so make sure it's exactly the same length(exposed silver wire).. . .if you're going to try it let me know if this worked for you. I hope I explained this clear enough as I'm not good with explaining things. lol

NOTE: make sure when testing the receiver you are testing it on land by walking away from it until it stops receiving signal. You might want to have someone help you so that they can signal you when the receiver has stopped working. . .

It is, which is why he was recommended to cut the shielding back on the coaxial wire the same length he cut the tip of the antenna to get back to the proper exposed length.
