Futaba 3PM Pistol with Airplane ESC YEP/YEG

    Greetings,

I am using a Futaba 3PM Pistol radio with YEP/YEG airplane ESC's. I always use a PixStix to make them work, but I have read somewhere some ESC's will arm with out a PixStix. My I wonder if my ESC's even need a PixStix. So my question is what should be the settings on the radio to get it to arm? I know the throttle should be set to reverse, but what should all the other setting on a Futaba 3PM be set to?

    Thanks in Advance.

I am not sure if that model Futaba can be set to work without a Pistix. The Spektrums just barely make it without the unit. On my Spektrums I set all throttle trims and sub trims to the minimum, and the ESC barely arms..

Ok I'll try the minimum. I kept reading that to set the Expo Brake at -85, End Point throttle to 120 and brake to 20, Sub Trim -31 and set the throttle to reverse but no luck. I'll try your way. Hope it works.

I set everything throttle to minimum and can't arm it even. With the settings I mentioned I was able to arm but motor would go to partial throttle and full throttle with moving the trigger to full brake position. Any ideas?

I have this for that radio:

              4PLSfutaba radio

              1 exp-brake at -85
2 end point - Thr at 120, brake at 20
              3 subtrim - at B-31
              4 reverse- Thr only
5 also set your micro trim ( on or near ) littlebutton , at B -14

If you have any problems with Step 4, adjusttransmitter as follows and then repeat the One-Touch programming in Step 4:
              A. Set HIGH ATV or EPA to maximum setting. [amount of throwat full throttle]
              B. Set LOW ATV, EPA, or ATL to maximum setting.[amount of throw at full brakes]
              C. Set EXPONENTIAL to zero setting. [throttle channellinearity]
              D. Set THROTTLE CHANNEL REV. SWITCH to eitherposition.
              E. Set THROTTLE CHANNEL TRIM to middle setting.[adjusts neutral position/increases or decreases coast brakes]
              F. Set ELECTRONIC TRIGGER THROW ADJUSTMENT to 50%throttle and 50% brake throw--best for reversible ESCs. [adjusts trigger throwelectronic/digital pistol-grip transmitters]

The first page of the prog card, bottom row, it has'STOP' third in, and 'FULL SPEED' fourth. During initial set up, have your tcset to linear, 0 to 100%. When you get to 'STOP' make sure the throttle stickis fully down, then hit enter. Scroll to 'FULL SPEED' throttle stick to top,100%, then hit enter again.

That's it, you're done. The esc has memorised upperand lower extremes of throttle.

I think I just figure it out! Turn radio on while holding the throttle all the way to full (full throttle) and plug in battery to ESC, wait for ESC to beep twice and LED on ESC is now solid red. Seems to work now!

Not sure if you've seen or tried but there were 2 files for programming on Hobbyking for the YEP 120. http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...ler_OPTO_.html
Scroll down to the bottom and click on the files tab. See "TX Programming" and the 120 manual.

As for the 4pls/4px I've been able to get them to work with the Castle air controllers, set the Fixed-Endpoints using the Castle software:

Fixed-Endpoints will set zero-throttle and full-throttle points to fixed values so that the ESC does not have to learn from your transmitter. If you are using this mode, you will most likely want to change the EPA settings on your transmitter to allow full throttle resolution with the throttle stick. *!**To do this, turn on your TX and set normal mode in the transmitter for a linear throttle curve (0,25,50,75,100). Bring your high side and low side endpoints on your throttle channel down to 25%, plug in the battery pack with the throttle stick at full (it won't start up), then bring your high endpoint back out towards (and sometimes past) 100% until you hear a single tone. Next, bring your throttle stick down to the bottom position and bring the endpoint out from 25% out towards (and possibly past) 100% until you hear the ESC arm. Unplug the battery pack, wait a few seconds, then plug back in and verify that the throttle is working properly.

Thank you. I got it working. Apparently I never set the throttle with the ESC cause with a PixStix never have to before. The trick appears to be the following as I just was able to arm my other one without a PixStix.

                    Radio Settings:

                    1. Futaba: Set Throttle to reverse.
                    2. EPA Throttle = 120%
                    3. TRM-TH = 0
                    4. All other settings 0 (neutral)

                    Arming to run ESC:

                    1. Hold throttle trigger down to full throttle.
                    2. Power up the ESC
                    3. ESC will keep beeping nonstop.
                    4. Let finger off the throttle trigger and let fall to neutral position; leave in natural neutral position until the ESC's light goes solid.
                    5. Ready to run!

Now I have to figure out if there is any less throttle with this setup or if the throttle is not full power.
