I have a modified aquacraft lucas oil (spartan motor, 220a swordfish esc) the other day I was running this boat, and I lost transmission. The boat maintained last throttle position, and found itself stuck in the bank in no time. This boat is running the standard tactic system that comes with the rtr version. I have bound another tactic remote, and had the same issue. I will try another receiver today. What do you guys think, is it possibly the esc? I have lost signal with tactic systems before, and the throttle always returns to neutral.
Signal transmission loss?

While some people have had good experience with the Tactic, my experiences were the same as yours. Never once they gave me fail safe, only the fail part. Like you, I bought new rx and the same thing happened, when the signals were lost, it maintains last throttle input and no response from steering command. Boat heads straight to shore, Kamakaze style, lol......
I beached two hydros that way, my only boating accidents from radio issues. I have checked the fail safe before hand by having part throttle and turning off the tx, it seemed working. Ah, but in the real world....... None of the hulls were made of CF, BTW.
I had better luck with my FlySky GT-3B for that matter.
I use Spektrum now, BTW.

So, no possibility that is the esc? That swordfish has always acted a little, fishy..... I've had a few tactic systems give out, but the throttle has always returned to neutral, which is why I'm suspecting something else. Also to note, the steering maintained same position as well. Nothing worse than having to take it easy because your boat has the possibility of going on a rampage and killing a duck or something. You guys are probably right tho, I should upgrade my receivers and get one remote to run them all.Comment

Well, the way I understand this is that if the receiver is not getting a link to from the tx, it should command the throttle to idle, on electric system that means motor should stop ( neutral). ESC takes command from the radio. Now if your ESC has been acting fishy, that may be a calibration issue, it is a bit of a trial and error to calibrate with the Tactic until you get the hang of it.
In all fairness, the Tactic is a very good entry level system on a RTR vehicle, probably on land more so than on the water, if I am careful with my distance, i have no problem. having said that, when I experienced trouble, I wasn't too far out either, may be just a bit more than the typical offshore racing oval circle would have dictated.
For me it would not have been so bad if i could still steer the boat, but there was no way to crank the rudder and watching helplessly to see the boat rams straight on to the shore is a nail biting experience to say the least.Too many boats, not enough time...Comment
