    FlySky GT3B Radios

Anyone here using the FlySky Radios? Specifically the GT3B radios?

    Any issues?
How does it feel in your hand say compared to a Futaba radio?

    Thanks!

    HI,
I have used one of these radios w/o a hitch , this radio afforded me a very long range, much longer than the Tactic radio, in some cases more than my Spektrum radio with their Marine Series Receivers.
I like the large screen and the manual, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it is nice to see an easily lit screen.
The down side is you feel the lag: latency is obvious. The wheel has a mechanical feel that is not the smooth feel one associates with Futaba or higher line of Spektrum Txs. It does not feel cheap, it is what it is. It just does not feel like a $200 or $300+ radio but much better than the Tactic line of Tx "plasticky" feel.
On some units ( different batches, earlier ones) I hear the firm ware has a glitch: it will not remember model settings, another words it will let you input the ten different models, but it will only give the same settings across the board, but seems possible to flash the firm ware. I simply use a Index Card and write down all the settings since i am too lazy to get into the manual and reset.
Also due to the design of the "step down" steering wheel, the plastic casing is not the strongest:, if you wiggle the whole thing, it wiggles.
Lastly: some people would say not to use a cheap radio on a $1000 boat, it is a valid point, but I have seen locally a well respected builder/racer using it for years and swears by it.
I like this particular model and if I were to buy another one, this will be it rather than the newer orange or green ( I think ) ones. Rx is only $8 a pop.

I have 3 of the $24 FlySky FS-GT2B and they are awesome as well for sport use. I mostly use them in rc cars and have never experienced any weird signal loss like you get with the factory radios in the rtrs. I have never noticed any latency and the range is really unbelievable in my opinion. I may one day step "up" to the GT3B for my boat hehe.

Yes you are right, for some reason the GT2B works fine on land vehicles, I have one that came with a RTR from either Axial or Kyosho and I didn't notice the lag or rather the low resolution. May be my GT3B was an exception, but it is noticeable. Two things, one is the lag, the other is the 'frame rate" or resolution, when you turn the steering wheel, the servo response ever so slightly like the notchy movement from a Cartoon. I experimented with various servos and all reacted the same way. Multiple examples of Rx yielded the same finding. ( no cheapy servo, they were either Futaba or Hitec or Airtronics) However, on a boat this does not present a problem especially if you are not Offshore or Naviga racing. :-)

Um... I'm using the Flysky GT3C and I would say it blows for any decent and reasonable amount of range.

I tried doing a speed run earlier today on a wider part of the lake and throttle kept cutting off and on across the lake... I would get a little closer and it would run "ok" but still with some bunch of latency and twerks.

I don't know why everyone seems to like them... maybe for just random close range runs for fun etc but for anything else the lag makes it unbearable & useless.

I ordered a Futaba 4PLS the other day so hopefully that fixes the lag and cut off issues.

Because they work fine for some people. That's why.

Perhaps for guys with Spartan boat that run close to shore sure... seemed to run perfect when i used it for that. I'm sure for the faster boats it makes it worse.

This is a very good point. because of this, as i pointed out, it is a radio that will generate comments like "...... Don't put this radio on a $1000 boat".
Some people seem to have trouble and some don't.
Also the Tactic radio has a different experience index for different people as well, I believe Luck has had very good experience with it, I have had several boating accidents because the signal was lost and the fail safe feature only delivered the first word.......
I boat on a course that is frequently raced and should not be considered as close range, but it is not extreme distance either, it is on this course I suffered run away boats with the Tactic. They are not CF hulls, just regular FG hulls. The Spektrums I use and the few with SkyFly radio all performed flawlessly.
Bottom line: if you want a 100% record, go with Futaba.

@ dmitry100: I believe the GT-3B might have a better track record. I am talking about this model only as I like the design and don't care for the other models under this brand.

I have noticed today that it responds a bit better if i connect the 7v LiFE battery to it instead of passing it through a 6v bec first though.

You mean the rx? I have never done it, always used the BEC from the ESC.

I've been using gt3b for a couple years on my boats. Range is great and so is reliability. Also once you learn how to program it it is very easy. I upgraded mine to a 3 cell lipo battery instead of the 8 aa and it last forever. Hobby king sells a lipo with voltage cutoff invade you leave your radio on.
