Futaba FAAST vs Futaba FHSS (Range)

    Hello all,

First post on this forum. I apologize if this topic has been addressed before. I have installed in my HK Genesis Cat a FAAST receiver with no range issues. My friend installed a Futaba T-FHSS R304SB receiver in his Rigger and the boat goes out of range at less than 100yds. His hull is carbon fiber and the antenna is located outside the hull. Is that acceptable? I can't seem to find any published range values from Futaba. Would he be better with a FAAST receiver? His radio is a 4PLS. I know it only does FHSS. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Bob,

Welcome to OSE. There should be more range with the FHSS receiver than 100yards. I would try to get the last 1" of antennae further outside the hull. If he cannot due to length limits, Hobby Services and several vendors online sell 300mm long antennae which should allow good placement of the receiver inside the boat with plenty of cable length to get the last 1" of antennae clear outside the boat.

There is a possibility the antennae has become unplugged from the board. You will have to crack the case open to find out.

I would also suggest an on-land range check with the cowl opened versus closed.

    Good luck.
