your going to get many different opinions here about that..........if you go with futaba or spektrum youll be fine. just pick one based on the features you want and budget you can afford. also atke into consideration the price of receivers. if i'm not mistaken, futaba receivers are little more expensive than spektrum (mr200 in particular) and seem to not be as common to find used. You can also get the "orange" receivers that work with spektrum for about 15 bucks each. I just bought a couple of them. I cant say if they are great or not just yet.

I've started on Aquacraft boats, so I have their Tactic stuff. Everyone in our group who has some rather pricey brands all still have nothing but good things to say about the Tactics they have had. In fact, I know a couple of guys who have gone back to their Tactic stuff even after paying some big bucks on other brands.

My stuff has been 100% reliable, no issues at all. Since we run in saltwater 99% of the time, and I don't like using balloons, I simple spray some Corrosion-X into the receiver prior to first use. I've had one completely underwater saltwater for over 1 hour before I was able to retrieve the boat, the receiver worked perfectly afterwards. Just make sure to wash it out and re-coat with Corrosion-X.

For my non-carbon boats, I use their basic antenna-less TR324 2.4Ghz receiver. They are about $20 on Amazon. For my carbon fiber boats, I use their TR625 2.4Ghz receiver which has dual external antennas. They are about $25 on Amazon.

Very simple binding procedure, and practically bulletproof with reception. My transmitter is the TTX240, you can find them as cheap as $65 bucks. But any Tactic transmitter with SLT symbol will work with any of their receivers.

Tactic has always been solid for me.
I know guys up here in mass have had problems with spectrum....
I think it depends where you live really. Some radios outperform others depending where you're located.
          I just stay with tactic

I've never seen a Tactic wig out. My only apprehension with them is the lack of features. I mess with end points a lot to keep me from doing anything nutty.

I like the water proof RX that you can get with the Spektrum. I like the feel of the transmitter. Has a very pistol like feel to it. I run them exclusively and confess that I am completely bias. The early DSM units were horrible. That was many moons ago.

Airtonics makes a waterproof rx now to. I've not used one in many years though. I haven't even seen one at a race since 2010.

Futaba is probably still the gold standard by which all other radios are measured. But no waterproof RX. What is up with that?

I've seen the Flysky and heard many testimonials about them but it's also the only radio I've watched someone struggle with. I don't think it's fair to condemn the entire brand. Who really knows why there was trouble that one single time. That guy might be a doofus.

Best thing to do is to decide what features you want and then look at your price range and decide how much "feature" you're willing to pay for. The brand names traditionally have pretty good tech support should you need it.

Have Tactic, Spektrum, and Flysky. Never had trouble with the last two brands. I have blind spots with Tactic, every new receiver has the same issue. So it's not a bad receiver. I have given up on Tactic. Only Spektrum for me.

I've had good luck with my Tactic gear on my aquacraft boats, Rio 51, revolt 30, motley crew and lucas oil.
I'm running spektrum on my other gas boats, WHH Magnum 57 and 1/8 Miss Bud, all good so far too.

Recently I purchased a Spektrum DX3S with multiple model memory so I don't have to carry 3 or 4 different TXs to the lake

Spektrum or Futaba for me, I have one Futaba that is over 30 years old and going strong, still use it in my all original Associated RC10 gold tub car from the 80's.
Plus if my name brand stuff has problems I can have it repaired as opposed to adding more junk to the landfill and just buying a new one, might not matter to many people but that matters to me. I came from the generations that fixed things, I really hate this disposable society.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Another thing on these. Don't let anyone tell you that there is only one obvious, smartest, best, "if you don't it you're stupid" solution to radios.

Some of the manufacturers like to claim they have the best this, that, or the other. While that me be true of a particular feature they are trying to sell you on it may be something that means exactly jack in the real world.

Each of these systems has merit. Some are simply bang for buck. Tactic for instance.

Start with reliable and then buy features until your wallet begs for mercy. haha Everyone's wallet has a different pain tolerance.
