The size of the resistor determines the charge time. To small and it charges to fast and you still get a spark. To big and it takes to long to charge. Here is a link that has a calculator. 2 to 4 seconds is a good range.

something to consider...... Ive run up to 8s without one, but i'm using a connector that plugs in both positive and negative at the same time. Ive noticed if you plug them in seperately, you get a nice spark...plug in at the same time, it doesnt do it. I run some pretty stout caps too.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

But I just use these as the loop connections.

Question, when running 6s2p, do I still only need 1 spark arrestor? In other works, can I build my parallel wires to be configured with 1 arrestor? Connect the negative sides of the (2) 6s packs to the parallel harness and then to the esc, then connect the positive sides of the (2) 6s packs to the parellel harness. Then make the final connection with the smaller connector on the spark arrestor and the final main positive connection on the ESC?NEVER SATISFIED RACING
