Hammer upgrade receiver problems

Hello,
I have a hammer that I am trying to upgrade a little, just to make it faster

I have installed a jeti 300mc but am only using 7 or 8 cells
Have hooked up a receiver pack for it and the setup worked fine as far as the speed controller and motor, but cannot get my steering servo to work.
I have tried to copy my aquajet setup as far as connections.

receiver battery in bat location
speed controller in 2 location
steering servo in 1 location

wires for servo from left to right...white, red, black
the receiver is a ofna rx-001, I know it is not a real good one but it works with a speed controller with a bec.
I have tried to reverse the throttle and steering but it still does not work??
Just want to be able to run more cells.
Any Ideas??

Stupid I feel now, after writing this post I thought would try fresher batteries in receiver pack and guess what!!
Everything works fine.
thought they were good, guess not
